Diary of an Ampallang.
At A Glance Author Z Contact Z@bme.anon When N/A Studio Bound by Design Location Colorado I previously posted an experience, oh about three years ago, about the mind over matter reasoning for getting an ampallang. The summery of the rather long-winded experience was that I wanted to try something new, something different, and something unique. I found this in an ampallang. Further, I challenged myself to follow what some might argue is a more traditional path of tribal piercing, and used the experience as a coming of age rite of passage.
In case you are curious, the posting is still on BME, entitled "A Late Night E-mail."
Well, it is a few years latter, and the piece of jewelry remains a conversation piece, however it is stored in a filing cabinet next to my desk, no longer part of my body.
This posting is not about the piercing procedure itself, but what I learned starting about, lets say, a month latter.
1. Healing.
My penis always sits to the left under my clothes. This is important, as that meant my pants always pushed the piercing in on the right side of the penis, so the ball rode flat on the side of the penis head. That meant the ball and remaining barbell, about ¼" to sometimes ½" long, stuck out on the left side whenever I was flaccid.
This posed a problem in the healing. The right side, which the ball laid flat against the skin, healed within a month or two, and the left side never healed in 8 months of wearing.
My theory is that the ¼" to ½" of barbell that stuck out on the left side moved around as I walked and moved, as if you can imagine a single tall piece of grass in a field blowing in the wind. The movement caused constant irritation, hence, delaying the healing process.
This meant, for 6 months, I had "crusties" on the barbell as it exited the left side. These
deposits I would chip off with my finger nails every time I went to the bathroom, always washing my hands first. Of course, in the shower or during the routine soaks they came off too, but still required assistance, as they would not completely dissolve without agitation.Well, these deposits would have another effect. It is a known fact in the piercing community that if the barbell is two short, an erect penis may suck in one of the barbell balls, causing damage and pain. Well, the deposits were jagged, sharp, and very hard, and had the effect of shortening the barbell, by adding another "ball" in the center of the bar. About once a week I would feel the intense pain of these deposits being pulled into the piercing as the dynamics of the penis would change. Besides for being painful, this action did not promote healing.
2. Sex.
Because of relationship issues with someone I was having fun with at the time, I was alone on this one. So, for eight months, we -- the piercing and I -- had fun together. Was it what I expected? Yes and no. The second half of that period, even though healing was not completed, I was not tender. The experience was positive, and playing with the piercing would warm me up real quickly, but once the erection occurred, not much was different. The feeling of the two balls, which perfectly sat on each side of my erect penis, was more stimulating to my mind, in the appreciation of the aesthetics and accomplishments I had reached, then in the basic sexual stimulation.3. Other accomplishments while I had the ampallang.
I visited Hawaii and played in the ocean. I paraglided (see the net to learn what a paraglider is, it is not parasailing, but more like hang gliding.)
I worked as usual; my job at the time was 50% manual labor that required a lot of walking.
I got made fun of by my friends, typically in an amusement park line for a roller coaster, with hundreds of people in line. On person would yell, pretending that they just found out, "You got your penis pierced?" This would of course shut up everyone in line, and create an interesting conversation piece.
Most of these same friends would eventually have their curiosity stimulated enough that they would ask me to show it to them. Few actually received a yes answer.
4. The removal. The piercing was healed enough that I could remove it for 20 or so minutes and put it back in with no problems.
I was constantly contemplating removing the piercing in the final month, due to the lack of the healing, and the frequent discomfort from the healing process. I kept saying, "one more week", like someone who does not want to give up something they want to keep.
However one day, I waited a little too long when I removed it, and the piercing closed on the left side, and the rest was history. My decision was made by fate I guess.
It healed with very little scarring. Two years latter, when I get erect, I have two little divots where the hole was, but no real pain or sensation that anything is different. I can feel a little scar tissue, meaning the path of the piercing is a little harder than normal tissue, however it has no effect on me.
Unlike a facial piercing, where one would hope no scarring would occur, I don't mind a little mark of my past left on my penis. It tells a story, and it is subtle enough that it can remain private until I choose to tell.
5. The future.I desire another piercing. Nipples seem like something I would like, however I believe you have to be "built" or super thin, to look good with a nipple. I have, and always have had, a little more fat on my bones than the medically recommended body fat percentage. I weigh 220, and am 6'2". I would either need to double my muscles, or weigh 180, to look good with a nipple... So perhaps this will be my weight loss goals for 2002.
I am thinking about a P.A., and I bet I will get one soon. However I fear that my urethra is too shallow or close to the bottom of the penis, meaning I fear I will get a lot of migration.
No regrets.###
