Some 8 or 9 years ago a friend of mine was starting to get heavily into piercing and he had his first genital piercing; a PA. I was mortified at the thought of having a piece of metal through my 'bobbies helmet' and thought, 'I could never do that'...However, after borrowing his copy Modern Primitives and reading from cover to cover, I became fascinated with the ampallang. Over the course of a year I decided that this baby was for me! My friend revealed that he went to Patrick Bartholemew in South London, taught by Mr Sebastian no less. So I made an appointment to see Patrick Bartholemew now of the London Piercing Clinic and went down with my then girlfriend; she'd decided to have her navel pierced at the same time.

So, the fateful evening finally came and I was feeling remarkably unfussed by the whole thing, I am sure XX was in a worse state than me. This was long before the days when Patrick had started the London Piercing Clinic but he had devoted the whole back of his house to a super clean piercing studio, complete with powered dentists chair! Now, up until this point in my life I hadn't even had my ears pierced, so Patrick was somewhat surprised about my choice of initiation into the world of body art. A quick chat managed to persuade him that I was capable and ready and I lay down in his 'special' chair...This was when the pucker factor really kicked in, and my once proud member shrunk to the size of a cashew nut and tried to retreat into my body in a frantic bid to escape the needle and his big hands ;) Well, seeing the needle sent me into a quiet sort of catatonic state..But feeling the needle made me flinch somewhat. Strangely, the first entry was the worst bit and lots of tugging and pulling later the 1.6 jewellery was through. I'd made it!! We left the piercing room and had a sit down, whereupon Patricks partner remarked that I was 'looking a bit pale'...You don't say...A cup of sugary tea later and we hit the road. All through the 50 mile drive home I was feeling euphoric and adrenalised. I kept the car at 140mph and blasted out the music, smacking the steering and dash with the energy of the whole thing. I felt like I'd graduated from the rank of Pussy Willow to Grand Master in about 2 minutes flat ;-) That night I woke with a great hard-on, but there was no blood at all. This was a perfectly placed ampallang. However, it was still some commitment and many times over the next 15 months I wondered why the fuck I'd had it done.

I went through various phases of wanting to show off my piercing to my droogs, talk about it, touch it, hate it, and even wanting to have the fucker removed. I of course wanted to try my new toy out and ignored all the warnings about laying off the fucking. It was absolutely agonising and we had to stop most times we started during the first three weeks...Seeing the pink spunk was a novelty though :-p I went through various painful experiences, such as someone opening a car-door on my new piercing, getting it caught when towelling myself after a bath...etc...etc...But yes, sex was wicked for both parties, though I had to control myself a little more until I was used to it!

Maintence-wise, the cleaning was very easy, just a little salt water morning and evening. Sometimes the area became inflamed if I forgot a cleaning session, and this was painful enough, but I didn't get infected at all. A main source of pain was that it was slightly too tight between the ballbearings. I guess where I'd shrunk to such a small size through fear, Patrick underestimated the size of my erection and sometimes a hard-on would pinch really painfully. As soon as the ampallang was healed though, I widened this length and things were OK.

So, 8 years on and me and my ampallang are very happy together. In fact, since then, I've also had a PA, an apadravya and a septum piercing (the most painful of the lot!) and stretched them all up to 3.2 and 10mm balls. All the women I've had the pleasure of sleeping with say these piercings feel excellent - though they could be protecting my fragile male ego :) - and I think they look lovely, particularly the ampallang. The only downer? I'm slightly less sensitive due to having to wear my foreskin back, but it doesn't detract from my sexual pleasure and the other piercings make up for it.

In summary, I'd say go for an ampallang and don't look back. It is a big commitment but when the healing is all over, you and your partner will wonder how you ever got by without it...Though buggery is a bit er...difficult with some of the larger jewellery!
