I'm 19 and recently seen the movie "Strangeland" for the first time. There is a scene in the movie where Dee Snider performs an ampallang piercing on a young guy and this kind of piercing intrigued me.

I checked around at local tat shops and piercings shops to see who could do this procedure and only found two here in town. I did a check with friends and on the internet to find out more info about this particular piercing and the more I read the more I wanted it done.

Finally I got the nerve and made an appointment at the Outch Shop to get it done. I chose the Outch Shop due to the fact I had some tat work done there and friends of mine that had piercings done there said that he was good and he was cheap. The next day, scare to death, I went in and talked to the guy who was going to do the piercing. While I was standing there looking around the shop at all the pictures of piercings and tattoos that had been done there, Ghandi came into the room and told me to have a seat in the back and that he'd be with me in just a second. When he came back into the room he said I had nothing to fear and that he had done dozens of these before. While I was sitting there sweating my ass off, he had me sign some paperwork verifying that I was of age. He took the paperwork from me and laid the chair back I was sitting in.

As I sat there staring at the ceiling for what seemed to me to be hours, he told me to take a deep breath and about the same time those words came out of his mouth I felt the needle pierce the skin. The feeling of the needle piercing me was almost orgasmic. In my head I was still thinking, "I can't believe I'm getting this done. I looked down to see what he had just accomplished and I was pleasantly surprised; it looked bad as hell. He pierced me with a 10 gauge needle and put a 10 gauge stainless steel barbell in the hole; it cost me $65 to get this done.

He told me how to take care of it and how I should refrain from having intercourse for about 2 weeks. It does bleed, but I only bled for about 45 mins.; and it wasn't anything life threatening. I've had the piercing in for almost 2 and a half months and I love it; but my girlfriend loves it EVEN more.

The worst part about the whole piercing has to be the period of having to take care of it. He gave me a tube of antibacterial soap to wash it with, which burns like hell but it's worth it. When getting this kind of piercing done, make sure to know all the facts on how to take care of it. Although the artist should give you all the information you'll need sometimes they don't tell you everything. Make sure to clean the area around the piercing and make sure NOT to take it out at all for about a month for it will heal up in no time and you'll have to get it done all over again.

So far I haven't had any problems with my ampallang other than the occasional "snag" in the pants which makes for an overly uncomfortable feeling.

I have this piercing and many others including: a 000 gauge curved barbell in both my left and right ear, a double barbell piercing in my tongue, my labret with a 12 gauge spike, and both my bridge and septum pierced with a 14 gauge barbell in my bridge and loop in my septum. I also have original tattoo artwork done in sleeves on both arms which consist of pictures of family members that have passed away and many tribal designs that I have drawn up in my spare time and a tribal dragon on my back. But my prized body art has to be the ampallang. I'm a very open person and will show almost anyone the piercing if they ask. I'm starting to do my own tattoo work and piercings with some piercing kits and tattoo machines that I bought from Huck Spaulding.

To all the guys out there that might be thinking about getting any of this done, bite the bullet and get it done; you won't regret it. Some words of advise I would like to give everyone thinking about getting tattoos or piercings of any kind, do some research first. Check with people in your town to find out how good the artist is and make sure he is licensed. Overall, just have fun and try out different piercings and body art to find out what you like the most. Some people like some body art more than others so just experiment and find out what you like. If you have any questions on any of the other piercings I have mentioned, feel free to ask.
