TO EVERYONE ABOUT TO READ THIS: THIS WAS A DUMB IDEA AND I'M IMPATIENT AND I HAVE AN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD IMMUNE SYSTEM. PLEASE IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE GET IT DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL.

So I've been wanting my nipples pierced for at least a year now. I told my boyfriend about it and I know he doesn't really like them, but I love them. I'm very into body modification, just nothing too heavy. I came onto BME often to look at the different ways they looked, and told myself I'd wait til I was 18 to get it done professionally.

I have this thing where I always need to have a shock factor. I always like to keep my friends on their toes with something different every time I see them. I used to dye my hair all sorts of crazy colors but lately my hair's been back to normal. So I've just been building up my earring collection (on my ear).

Yesterday I was talking to an old friend about mods and all that fun stuff. I was telling her what I really wanted for a long time and thought it would be funny to shock my boyfriend. She laughed and started egging me on. I laughed and joked and told her "no no I tried but it's dumb.." but something in my head kept telling me "do it, do it!" I knew this was what I wanted.

So I took a glass of ice cubes upstairs and got out my large variety of sewing needles which I had so affectionately "sterylized" in a pool of alcohol. I cleaned off my left nipple with some of the alcohol, used a bobby pin to clamp, got the biggest needle and went for it.
Mistake number 1: Using the biggest needle with no lubrication.

It hurt really bad and it wouldn't even pierce the skin! So I tried the other side. Same problem. After many many minutes of me being frustrated, I got a smaller needle. At this time I also remembered that I had ice cubes with me. So I held it on for about 5 minutes to numb the area and with the thought of the look on my boyfriend's face driving me, shoved that needle through. It stopped halfway through.

For about 20 minutes I was forcing it through, between intervals of icing and shoving, and eventually got it through. I left the needle in for a while because I was so tired and shaky. I put my shirt on to calm myself and splashed water on my face in the bathroom. Took a few deep breaths and lifted up the shirt to see. The needle got caught in my shirt and jesus it hurt. I put it back down and went back to where I had performed the whole procedure. Then I gently took the shirt back off.

When I pulled the needle out it started to bleed. "Oh god oh god" i thought when I was concious enough to realize the captive bead hoop was 14 guage and this needle was way smaller than that. So I used what any other desperate person would use in this situation: an earring. A little purple stud earring from Claire's.

I'd recently bought these earrings and had never worn them, so it was the obvious choice. My right nipple is incrdibly sore but I'm glad with it. Hopefully I'll go out and get some proper barbells for it today. Had no problems sleeping, no crusties whatsoever. This was without a doubt the most painful and frustrating piercing I've ever done.

And remember kids: Don't follow my example. Get it done professionally. Research your interests thoroughly so that as little as possible goes wrong! I'm just too impatient for my own good.

I clean it with bactine whenever I think of it (which is about a million times a day) and all I really need to do now is see my man and freak him out. The look on his face was my main motivation for this whole ordeal. This was a pain and in total took about 3 hours. It's crazy, I know, but worth it. It looks cute!

Maybe sometime in the future I'll get the other one done if I don't take this one out. It came out at a slight angle light I wanted it, just slightly lower on the right side. It makes my boobs look perkier and put me in a better mood. I'm really happy with this overall and actually didnt mind the pain (even though it was awful, although not as bad as I thought it would be). Please be responsible and have fun!
