Growing up I had never imagined sticking pieces of metal through my body. Even more so, I had most definitely never, ever, considered putting my nipples through that sort of torture. That is why it is with great shock at my own insanity, that I announce that I did, in fact, get my nipple pierced. It is with even greater shock that I'll inform you that it is fast becoming my favourite "dirty little secret".
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Paul Studio Paul's Piercings Location Langley, BC, Canana My love of piercings has slowly evolved out of hatred over time. It started with a navel ring, then a nostril, followed by a tragus, all interspersed between numerous self inflicted lobe rings. (Not the best idea, folks) The thing is, once the idea for a piercing pops into my head, I can't back down. That is why when I decided that I was going to get my nipple pierced three months ago, it was a done deal. No persuasion from friends or siblings could convince me not to get this piercing.
Some other piercing lovers and I decided that we would celebrate my friend getting her braces off next month by getting her tongue pierced, while the rest of us started trying to catch up on our puncture wound wish lists. That was the original plan for my nipple ring. But things change, as teenage girls are easily bored by summer days. That's why one morning my friend and I took that half hour drive into Langley to get our piercings.
When we got tot the studio there were about 8 people in the waiting room (probably only half of them there to actually get piercings, the other half there for support) I quickly realized that the piercer working that day was, in fact, the owner and operator himself, Paul. So, as Paul was busy setting up people for piercers, and a young gentleman was sitting in the corner in utter terror at the sculpture of a PA piercing, my friend and I looked at jewelry. I decided I wanted a nice blue straight barbell. My friend decided on a circular barbell for her tragus piercing,
Finally, after about half an hour, my friend sat on the chair to get her piercing. All went well, except that the apprentice who was working with Paul that day couldn't even seem to get the balls on the barbell. It took a good 5 minutes just for that. I was getting a little nervous at this point.
Now, it was my turn. Paul closed the door and told me to take off my shirt and bra. This was odd coming from a 50 year old man. But I guess there's a first time for everything... right? I was told to stand up with my arms by my side as the apprentice marked me with a tooth pick. I never thought my nipples were sensitive, but even the toothpick hurt slightly. Paul came over to examine the placement, and started using my nipple as an example of how female nipples differ in placement than males. It's all good that I have no shame, I was being used as a classroom example. I'm glad that I came in useful...
Anyways, enough said about that awkwardness, now came the needle. Man that was harsh. None of my other piercing hurt that much, or continued hurting after the needle was through. I'm just happy my friend was there to hold my hand. Even putting the jewelry in hurt, and cleaning it afterwards hurt. When I exclaimed and cursed a few times this I was just informed that I mustn't be as "tough as I look." I was a little taken back at how rude he was- but besides for the pain- I was really happy with my piecing and the placement really was great. The only thing I was unhappy with was the fact that I had been convinced to put rings in opposed to the barbell I wanted, apparently it's better for cleaning. (Which I've now been informed is not true, especially for someone with bigger breast like myself)
My friend and I left the piercing salon and headed over for the mall (where I had told my parents I would be in the first place) and tried on a bunch of clothes before heading to the body jewelry kiosk. We got to talking about piercings with the girl working there and she told us some very interesting stuff. I've always gone to Paul's and never had any problems with my piercings or the iodine mixture that he recommends, but I was told that iodine is definitely too strong for healing piercings and that he was crazy for recommending it. Also, there have been questions as to the sanitization of the shop, although I saw the autoclave and all individually pack, but I was told that iodine is definitely too strong for healing piercings and that he was crazy for recommending it. Also, there have been questions as to the sanitization of the shop. I saw the autoclave and all individually wrapped, sterilized materials, but I am not an expert by any means. All I know is that the girl really seemed against Paul's and suggested another studio down the way. I'm most definitely going to check it out. Her comments had me a little worried.
As for my nipple, it is healing beautifully. It's been very sore, but that can be expected, and I'm growing to love it more and more. I've seen only the tiniest bit off blood, and there's hardly any discharge at all. I've been doing warm saline soaks about twice a day. I've also used Spectro Jel or Dove every time I clean it. Other than that, I'm adhering to leaving it the hell alone, and, so far it seems to be working. Although my nipple piercing is only 4 days old I am very happy with the results.
