For many years I had toyed with the idea of getting my nipples pierced; however, I had been brought up in a time when only "bad" girls did such things. Sometimes the things we are taught as children stay with us entirely too long and it takes a lot to realize that times change and it's ok to do what you want with your body.

My husband and I have been together for over 25 years and throughout that time we have done what we can to keep things new and interesting. The piercing was originally his idea, and after years of prodding I finally decided I would surprise him and get it done.

First I had to get up the courage to go into a shop and talk to someone about it. I also needed a shop that was clean, sanitary and one that followed all the safety precautions. I visited several shops near my home and decided on the newest one in the neighborhood. My husband and I had been there discussing tattoos with them previously and we both were very pleased with the people who worked there. Everyone was always friendly, willing to answer all our questions and no-one had an attitude.

I was lucky because the shop had a female piercer. It had been so long since I took my top off in front of another man I was hesitant, embarassed and not sure if I could have the piercing done by a man.

The piercer was a wonderful girl, young enough to be my daughter, but professional in her manner and attitude. I spoke to her about the piercing and since I wanted both done she suggested that they be done at the same time with a male piercer as well. At first I said ok, but then I chickened out and said just one to start.

We discussed the price, I paid for everything then proceeded into the piercing room. Silly me just sat there on the table watching as she was getting everything ready for me. I was slightly nervous; not knowing what to expect, what the pain would be like, wondering if I was doing the right thing, etc. Well, as I said, I was just sitting there on the table and hadn't even unbuttoned my shirt when she turned around and said, with a smile on her face "I have to see it before I can do anything." I started to laugh, she did too, and from that point on all my anxiety was gone.

She proceeded to measure me for the jewelry, my nipples are large and she had to search for a longer barbell. She marked where she was going to pierce me, asked it if was OK, explained what she was going to do next and the process started. For me the clamp didn't hurt at all, she told me to take 3 breathes and on the third one the needle went through. It was just a little prick, nothing terrible. In fact, it was a rush! She then put the barbell in, and that was that. When I looked in the mirror, I loved it. She went over all the aftercare instructions, I gave her a tip for her work and I happily left the shop.

My husband was so surprised and couldn't believe I did it for him. After 2 months or so I went back for the other nipple. This one was for me more than him. I had the same piercer as the first one and we chatted like old friends while she pierced me. I recently had to remove one piercing and can't wait to get it done again. This time though I'll be having it done by a male as my original piercer has left the shop.

Healing wasn't a problem either. Only had to sleep with a bra for about 2 days and I carefully cleaned my nipples every day as directed. The only drawback was following the part of no touching, licking, sucking, etc., until they were healed. It was worth it though in the end.

The piercing has changed how my nipples react during sex. They get much harder now with much less stimulation. There's something about that little piece of metal going through my nipples all the time that excites me beyond words. All my husband has to do is touch my nipples and they get hard.

I'm so happy that I'm finally at that point in life that I do things for myself. If people have a problem with it, too bad. Imagine my daughter's surprise when she found out mom had her nipples pierced. It really changed how she thought about me. I'm no so old that I don't understand what's going on in the world today and we can now communicate better about things in her life.

Who knows what new and interesting things I'll do next.
