I've always admired piercings, but alas my parents are none too pleased with the thought of a needle piercing their under-aged son's body. So I did what any teen would do. I found a way around it. At one point or another, I've had my earlobe, cartilage, lip, and nose pierced. The earlobe, cartilage, and the nose quickly developed infections (downside to doing it yourself) and the lip ring stunt got me grounded for a week. Now I had always thought about a nipple piercing, but had always been put off by the idea of the pain.

My friend had offered to do it for me, and she knows quite a bit about piercing. So I thought, hey, if she has a sterile, professional needle and I keep it clean nothing could possible go wrong. Right? Wrong.

Numerous attempts to do the piercing myself had failed, and finally gave up my pride and let Mel do it. I held ice on my nipple for a ridiculously long time. I lost all feeling in it and it started to burn. "Great...I gave myself freaking frost bite ... well, at least I tried!". I laid on my back. the silence was killing me. I was so nervous I thought I was gonna loose whatever few contents that had been floating around my stomach. "Wait!" I yelled. "I need a smoke"

I lit up a cigarette, ashing everywhere in a frantic attempt to stall time, let myself calm down. I finished my smoke. Then another, then another, then another ...

Let's face it. I was killing time. I did NOT wanna go through with this. I said I would try and do it myself again, as if it would be any better. I tried but the initial poke and drop of blood made me sick to my stomach. I started to hyperventilate, and tried really hard not to pass out. I decided to stop wasting our time, and finally just do it. I really did want it, after all. Mel turned on the radio for some distraction. I laid down, looked straight up. I couldn't bear to look at the needle. "breathe in three times and on the third breath....brace yourself." I cried a little to myself. Why three? why couldn't we just get this over with? I did it, and in went the needle.

The pain wasn't all that much, it burned a little, and it bled like nothing I had seen. Oh My God. Blood everywhere, on my pants, on the bed, on the floor... it was like a fountain. It was deep red too, from all the nicotine. Damn tobacco companies. Of course, I lit up again, stood up and looked in the mirror. Quite pleasing, it was a little lop sided but I mean hey, it was free. I called my girlfriend, gasping for breath. "Hey! Gag. I just .gag. wanted to .gag. tell you it all went fine... .gag. It's a little bloody though... WRETCH!

It looked great, but if I got caught...well let's just say, I'd rather have tried to shove a broom stick up my pee hole.

I cleaned it twice a day for a week with Claire's ear solution. I also used hot water and anti-bacterial soap and rotated the piercing daily. It was a little tender, and I had to constantly wear a hooded sweat shirt, but it wasn't too bad. I'm a clumsy person. But after two weeks, bumping into people in the hallway at school had become quite a pleasurable misfortune.

I tried really hard to keep it all hidden, but of course i had to brag a little to my friends. One day, I stood up in front of my entire english class and showed them my pride. Mixed reactions are to be expected. But a lot of the girls thought it was awesome. A lot of the guys thought I was really crazy. I told my brother-in-law and my best friend accidently said something to my sister.

I went to claire's after about three weeks and got a pack of barbells. It went in real easy, but things started to go down hill from there. It began to swell and the occasional pain would come about. The piercing began to swell more, and soon became slightly infected. I kep the ring in for about a month, but every little turn became excruciating and the pressure to hide the piercing was unbearable. I removed the ring with some remorse, and my nipple has since healed nicely.

Overall, I don't regret my decision. It was a cool piercing, but I absolutely should have thought about the consequences of getting caught. It was fun while it lasted,But A Warning to ALL young people aged 16-18:

BE CAREFUL! YOU NEVER KNOW HOW CLEAN YOUR FRIeNDS ARE AND THIS COULD BE a VERY DANGEROUS THING TO DO!
