(Shiny because the metal is shiny, and secondly because it means good and 'a ok' in the best show ever 'Firefly')
At A Glance Author Eveing Contact Eveing@bme.anon When Six months ago Studio To the Point Location Calgary I should start at the beginning (as all good stories do), and at the beginning I had never given much thought to piercing. I had –wanted- something pierced, but I had had my lobes pierced and that was when I was 6 and wasn't what I wanted. I wanted something else but I didn't know what.
Then I met Jarett. And I have to mention him because he was a big part of me getting pierced. We had the same group of friends but we had never really talked until the summer before grade 12. We started hanging out more and more, and I went with him to get his anti-eye brow pierced. Before this he had his lip and his eyebrow done. Waiting in the store while he was in the piercing room getting pierced was so nerve wracking. I was more nervous then him and it was I who needed a sugary treat afterwards. I decided that from then on I would be the one in the piercing room.
That's when I started to really notice nipple piercing, or to be more specific both vertical and horizontal nipples pierced with spikes at the end. I decided that's what I wanted. But alas I was 17 and had to wait until I was 18.
Nipples were a good thing for me to get pierced, my mother is really against body mod and she never sees me naked, so I never have to worry about a fight over my nipple piercings. So I waited and waited for me to turn 18, and finally I did. Unfortunately I didn't have enough money to go out and do it that instant, so I sat tight.
Jarett, who I had started dating about two months in to his anti eyebrow, decided he wanted his nipples pierced, and I went with him. This time I was in the piercing room and wasn't nervous at all. Plus it was really interesting to see what would happen. His piercer free handed both of the nipples which had 14g barbells placed in them to prevent snagging. He squeezed my hand and made a big deal over how much it hurt. I called him a baby and waited until I could go and get mine pierced.
Finally in August I had enough money and some spare time with Jarett before my friend arrived in Calgary to visit me...It was a perfect time to go. I didn't have a piercer picked out and figured I would go to a shop that another friend of mine got his nipples pierced at. Divine (the place that Jarett went to) was to far away to make it to, and so we settled on To the Point. We walked in (me with a juice box and snack in my bag for after) and talked to the piercer. He was great and got everything ready for me, he was friendly and I took a good look around to make sure everything was sterile and clean. Sadly Jarett wasn't allowed to go back in to the curtained off area to hold my hand, and that was the only thing that really unnerved me. I took a deep breath and took off my shirt.
My piercer talked though the whole process explaining step by step what he was doing. We marked the entry and exit holes and checked for symmetry, I hopped up on to the table and lay down. He put the clamps on, and apologized if they pinched a bit, they didn't. He got everything near by and at hand and the first needle went in. We did the 3-breath prep and it barely twinged. The second one went by just as easily. Then came time to insert the jewelry that would live in my new holes for however long (hopefully a very long time). We had decided to use internally threaded (the beads had a little post with threads on it and it went inside the barbell) barbells, and this made insertion extremely easy. As my piercer said there was no 'cheese grater' on the freshly pierced holes. Quickly the barbells were on and the balls screwed on. We laughed over stories and I sat up and got a cherry sucker. I left one very happy girl.
I followed my aftercare instructions like the bible for about 2 weeks. It was interesting because that weekend I went camping for the long weekend. Being careful the whole time to keep my nipples out of the dirty river water while playing in it (it made floating down the river on a floaty interesting). And I made sure to clean it twice a day. All my friends had asked to see it, and of course I showed them and we started comparing our nipples...oh late night tent talks. Anyways, there was minimal bleeding (just one little speck in my bra) and even though I thought that I wasn't giving my piercings a easy welcome in to the world they behaved very well. I developed a method of sleeping with one arm above and the other under my breasts so I could still sleep on my stomach.
My nipples continued to treat me well even though I went to a concert and got jostled around, went to a water park and soaked in a hot tub, they really were being to kind to me. The only complaint was that one nipple looked like it was trying to eat its bead. Thankfully my university has a jewelry store in it, and they had spiked jewelry. Joy, I could finally have spikes in my nipples. I bought two new pieces of jewelry and ran off to the bathroom to put them in. Yes I was stupid and didn't clean the jewelry before I put it in, but the exchange went smoothly with no pain at all.
I've stopped with salt-water soaks unless they have been painful that day/night (and they do get angry if while sleeping Jarett knocks them or accidentally pulls on them in his sleep) and I just make sure to clean them in the shower rotating them. Its been six months and as soon as my work permits me (I work in a pool as a swim instructor) I plan on getting my verticals done.
And I would defiantly recommend this piercing to others. My nipples have given me nothing but joy (other then the first month when I didn't let Jarett play with them...that wasn't so much fun). Even though I did a lot of stuff that I wasn't supposed to, I guess the regular cleaning really helped out, so DON'T SKIMP ON CLEANING! Also, I never picked at the crusties, I only touch those when I' in the shower and the hot water has softened them up.
