Here is a little background information about me: I recently split up with my fiance, who I have been dating for four years and been engaged to for a year. He always hated my tattoo and couldn't understand why I would want my nipples pierced or anything of that nature. He thought it was some strange obsession when to me it is a way of feeling beautiful and expressing my love of art. Anyways, last week I was feeling pretty upset about our breakup and decided I would do something for myself. My roommate Lorah suggested that we go and get our nipples done, as we had both been itching to get them pierced for months now.

However, the woman that usually does our piercings, Liz, was sick and therefore not working that day. We decided to drive over to Creation Body Piercing on Red River Road, where we met one of the piercers, Amy. She said she had time to pierce us right then and there.
After we waited for a few minutes, Amy led us into the piercing room. She went through all of the procedures for cleanliness with us and showed us all the packaged instruments. I liked that she washed her hands at least 8 times. It made everything seem even more sanitary. We decided my roommate would get her nipples done first. She sat in the chair and watched as Amy finished preparing for the piercing. My roommate asked me to pick out what color of beads to put on the 14-gauge nipple rings and I chose bright orange for her and dark purple for me. Amy marked my roommate's nipples with dark ink and asked if the positioning was what she wanted. After my roommate gave her the okay, Amy lined up the needle and told my roommate to inhale and then pierced her. My roommate was so silent and pale that Amy kept asking her if she was okay and I was getting worried and thinking I wouldn't be able to handle the pain if my super tattooed/pierced roommate couldn't. However, apparently it turns out that my roommate just tends to go completely and utterly silent when she gets pierced and it hurts. Amy did her other nipple in the same way and then went through the after care procedures with her. My roommate decided to go bra-less as her freshly pierced nipples were throbbing in anger. At this point, I was silently flipping out.
After Amy sanitized everything and got new instruments, it was my turn. I was pretty nervous after seeing my roommate's reaction but I told myself how much I have always wanted nipple piercings and how it was a present to myself for making it through the breakup with my fiance of a year. Amy marked my right nipple, lined up the needle, and asked if the positioning was okay with me. I agreed and she told me to inhale. I have to say I experienced about 5 seconds of the most horrible pain I have ever felt; I would liken it to losing your virginity. In a way the piercings were almost pleasurable, though. I kind of felt like my emotional pain was being lessened by the experience of the physical pain. After giving me a chance to recover and breathe, Amy followed the same procedure and pierced my left nipple. She went over the after care with me, we thanked her, and I left to pay. We got a discount for piercing both at the same time and another discount for being students. I think all in all the piercings came to $72 plus we got bags of sea salt to clean them with for free.
I am so excited to finally have my nipples done! It's been a week and they are healing very nicely. I do a sea salt soak on each of them twice a day in two giant mugs and rotate the rings to clear out excess matter a few times a day, which seems to be working. I can't wait until they are completely healed so I can but barbells in them! I am also toying with the idea of ordering some nipple shields off the internet. I think they are so cute!
If you're considering getting your nipples pierced, I say go for it. The few seconds of pain are worth the beauty of the piercing! Just make sure you have something to eat before you go and wear a comfortable bra and soft shirt.
Creation Body Piercing in Thunder Bay is a super clean place with great piercers! I highly recommend them. Amy is awesome and makes you feel very welcome and taken care of.
