Studio The Body Piercing Place
Location Wesley Arcade, Perth
Background:

After wanting to get both my left and right nipples pierced for a number of years, I finally decided that the horror stories of pain that I'd been told about were not enough to deter me from this goal. I'd been told from plenty of people that there was very little chance that I'd go back to get a second one done after the first, so I chose to get both my nipples pierced at the same time. I considered getting vertical bar piercings, but in the end decided to go with standard horizontal bars.

Choosing a studio:

I had originally intended to get this piercing done at Exotic Body Piercing in Northbridge (Perth) as I'd had other piercings by the guys there and was happy to go back. Unfortunately when I arrived without an appointment they were quite busy that day and I suspected my bravery wouldn't hold up long enough for me to make an booking for a future date, so I went further into the city and found The Body Piercing Place at Wesley Arcade, just behind Wesley church. They had an experienced piercer on duty and no current bookings. They also had an advertised special painted on the window, which worked out to save me almost half price, including the jewellery. The store appeared very clean and well fitted out, with a good range of jewellery.

The main event:

The girl working there was quick to put me at ease, she had seen me around a few times and we had a few common interests to talk about (and she had a cute Irish accent). I stripped off and had my the entry and exit points lined up in ink first. She was very thorough at measuring and marking out exactly where I wanted the holes to be. She got all the bits and pieces out and double checked the sizes, then the next thing I knew, I was lying on my back with my eyes closed (I don't like seeing the needles) and the first one was done before I really noticed.

I remember at the time of the piercing, taking a mental note of all the small things to include in my review for BME, but then forgot to write it up afterwards. Six months down the track and I'm struggling to recall details - I can't even think of the name of the girl who did the piercing.

There was a short break while she opened the sterile equipment and packaging for the second piercing, during which I wasn't sure if the first one had been finished or not, as I was still waiting for the pain. When she was doing the second one, the first one began to throb at the same time as the needle went in, which caused me to arch my back slightly (bad idea), so the exit hole on my right nipple is a couple of mm off the mark. Due to no fault of the piercer though, and not that anyone other than me has ever noticed.

Cleanup and aftercare:

Cleanup was quick and painless, aftercare was described really well. It was a little weird at first having the piercer leaning across my half naked body with a hand on each breast applying pressure for the first few minutes, but we had a bit of a laugh about it. I've had a few previous piercings and I felt the pamphlet and instructions I was given this time were among the best I've seen. I walked out of the store afterwards still wondering when it would start hurting. Over the next couple of weeks there was occasional mild discomfort, but nothing that even came close to pain - despite all the stories I'd heard.

Living with the piercing:

I haven't had any ongoing difficulties living with these piercings, getting dressed, bumping into things, sex etc., it's all pretty much the same.

The strangest experience I've had since getting this done was when I was getting a full body massage and scrub in Langkawi, the (male) masseuse had no idea what to do about my pierced nipples. My partner was also having the same treatment and had the scrub rubbed vigorously all over, however my masseuse had a very hesitant touch around the area, keeping well clear of the piercings. I was so used to them at the time that I didn't even think about the need to mention my piercings to him beforehand.

Summary:

Overall, I rate this piercing experience as less painful than an eyebrow or lip piercing, and even less painful than getting my tongue pierced, which had been my least difficult piercing until this point. I would recommend The Body Piercing Place to anyone, and would go back to get another standard piercing done there.
