As previously stated when I got my eyebrow pierced, I am rapidly becoming a piercing addict. For my second fix, I decided my left nipple would be a good choice. as it doesn't get knocked around too much, and it's easy to hide. It would be my personal piercing that only people I chose would know about.

I live in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, and since the piercing shops down here are not exactly reputable, I decided to drive to Calgary (300km away) to find someplace I would actually feel comfortable. After some research on BME, I decided on a place named Bushido, which I had read many good things about. My friend Rhian wanted to get both her nipples pierced as well, so we set up a time to meet, and off we went to get them done.

We walked into Bushido, and I was impressed by the surroundings – very clean, but very laid back and relaxing as well. They were fairly busy, so the receptionist booked us in for 2 hours later, and we went off exploring downtown until it was time.

We came back at the appointed time, and waited for a little while more while Shawn (the piercer) finished someone's nape. Me being the wimp I am, I insisted Rhian go first, so off she went behind the curtain, and I was left to imagine the sadistic piercer honing his craft. Fortunately, there was a large stock of magazines and some relaxing music playing to keep me somewhat occupied - the anticipation of pain is always worse then the actual event!

She comes out, no obvious bleeding and I hadn't heard any screams, so with heightened courage I followed Shawn into his little den of torture. (Of course, not one to miss any blood, Rhian follows.) He told me to have a seat on the chair, and showed me the unopened and sterile equipment, while explaining about them and the piercing procedure.

I had wanted to get my left nipple pierced with a barbell, but when I told Shawn this he advised against it, saying a CBR would heal faster. I know there is not that big a difference either way, so i figured it didn't matter, and a CBR it was. After finishing his sterility spiel he had me stand up so he could mark the sides of my nipple. I checked it out in the mirror, and it looked just right so I gave him the go ahead.

I lay down on the table, he had me take several deep breaths: "On the count of three. One. Two. Three!" For the first instant, it didn't hurt at all. I was very happy with this. That rapidly changed. It hurt, quite a lot. I was expecting a little more pain then my eyebrow... this was a LOT more then that, at the peak I believe it was actually the worst pain I have ever felt. He had to stop pushing once to tell me to stop tensing, which I tried my best to accommodate and probably failed miserably. Eventually he got it all the way through, and inserted the jewelry which I barely felt at all.

As I was admiring myself in the mirror, he went over the aftercare instructions, and took us out front to pay – and disappeared before I could slip him a ten with the cliche-yet-subtle handshake. I'm planning on going back to get my lobes done at some point, so I guess I'll have to make it up to him then.

Healing has been fairly uneventful. After I first got it I had difficulty sleeping (as it would catch on the sheets and whatnot), but I found wearing a tight shirt helped keep it immobile. Sea salt soaks once or twice a day, keeping it clear of crusties, and generally leaving it the hell alone helped it heal quickly.

The nipple that was pierced has increased in size quite a bit – the nipple itself is now several times bigger then its counterpart on the right, and the areola has increased slightly as well. It was extremely sensitive for a while, and though that's been toned down a bit it is still much more sensitive then before the piercing. At some point I will probably go back to get the right nipple done, as it looks somewhat odd in comparison to the the other nipple...

All in all, I'm very happy with the piercing. It's behaved itself wonderfully, and both I and the ladies enjoy it quite a bit. If you're in Calgary and looking for a studio, I would very much recommend Bushido for piercings, and recommend the nipple as the location!
