I have had my nipples pierced since August of 2005. Prior to the whole piercing experience, I gave it a lot of thought. Did I really want to do it? It is funny because when I was in junior high, I swore that I would never pierce ANYTHING. (I had no piercings then!) Anyway, during the day to which I was going to get my nipples pierced, I thought about ALL day. At the end of the day, I was positive in my decision- I was going to go through with it!
At A Glance Author Shirley Contact Shirley@bme.anon When A year ago Artist Matt Studio House of Freaks Location Hollywood, California I long decided that I would go to House of Freak on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood. It came highly recommended from my sister, who has had several piercings done there. I got the directions to the place and took along a good friend, Betty. You would not believe how nice the place looks inside. It does not at all resemble those crappy places you find on Hollywood Blvd. The setting of the place is very lax and the decor is very professional and comfortable. I would recommend House of Freaks to everyone in the Los Angeles area. They actually take care of you. You also do not have to worry about some horny piercer groping you. I have had one experience like that on Hollywood Blvd. and I swore I would still go to House of Freaks from then on.
So jump to the scene where I am going to get pierced... So there I was laying down topless on a chair that closely resembles a dentist's chair! I had blue dots on each side of my nipples and was ready to get pierced. Just before doing so, I took a look at the size of the needle. It was huge! I almost could not fathom how something so big was going to go through me.
My right nipple was the first to get impaled... The pain was tolerable and enjoyable. I have never experienced the same pain in my life. I have always been able to describe it has a sharp and clear pain, if that makes any sense. Next was my left nipple... Every time my piercer stuck the needle through me, he asked me take a deep breath. Half way into it, he asked if I was okay. He seemed very professional, which is something that really helped the experience. It is hard enough to have a total stranger touch you in ways you would not allow your friends to touch you.
I was asked to come back in a month to get checked out to make sure the jewelry was the appropriate size. Going back a month later, they had to make slight adjustments. I also had to go back a few months later because one the balls that screw onto the barbells came loose and fell off in my sleep! They fixed me up, free of charge!
Despite the pain, I am glad to admit that I hung through it. The pain is not that bad really, but it does hurt. My nipples were really sore for the first few days. Driving home was an obstacle since the shoulder strap of the seat belt would rub against my chest every time I leaned forward to make a turn. Taking a shower that night was equally interesting as my nipples were very sensitive! The benefit of getting them pierced is that I can always tell when the weather is cold.
I was completely satisfied with the results and still am. My nipples are still healing and I am betting they will take longer than the usual year. I occasionally sleep in a way that puts pressure on my nipples and I wake up very sore in the morning. I am hoping that they will fully heal in time, but for now I am using Provon soap and Brave Soldier antiseptic to keep them clean.
Originally I had straight barbells going through my nipples. I recently changed them to hoops because I would occasionally snag them on loose pieces of wash cloth in the shower. You are not supposed to change the jewelry during healing time, but I made a decision to do so since the barbells snagging things would just prolong the healing process even more. I must admit that I am hoping my nipples will heal soon. I realize that average healing time is one year and that it has only been 8 months, but I am starting to think they will never heal. Granted, they do not look as they did when I first pierced them. There is improvement in the healing, but there is more is needed. At this point, I can only wait and take care of them properly.
After piercing my nipples and getting used to of them I came to realize how unaware of my nipples I was before the whole piercing experience. I am very careful now when changing or doing anything that involves movement around them. The whole experience was a delightful one, and I look forward to future piercings!
