My nipple-tastic adventure begins about eight years ago, during one of my many trips to Southern California with my best friend. On a spur of the moment decision and a half assed dare, I decided to get my nipples pierced. With my best friend at my side we walked up into the shop, which had an open front.

I spoke with a gentlemen who's name I can't remember but I do remember that he had some of the biggest stretched ears I'd seen at the time. I feel bad now, eight years later not being able to remember his name or the name of the shop where he worked. He helped me pick out jewelry and I filled out the necessary paperwork. This was my first piercing in a long time and since I had virtually no personal knowledge of this piercer who was about to pierce me, I was quite nervous.

He brought me into a room so small that he barely had room to move around the piercing table. We got out his tray and started laying out the supplies on it. Sterilized needles, sterilized jewelry, some type of soapy looking cleanser, a couple of q-tips and some gentian violet. He told me to undress from the waist up as he pulled the curtain closed on the room. Being that it was an open front shop on the strand in Venice Beach and the fact it was still early in the day, my nipples were hard almost instantly. Then the goose bumps came, as did the shivers (partially from being cold and partially from being nervous). He cleaned my nipples and marked my nipples in the best area to pierce (in his professional opinion). He told me to lie down and he would get ready to pierce me. I thought my heart was going to leap out of my chest it was beating so hard. I noticed he had the needle in one hand but no tool in the other. So I asked him where his tools were, a huge grin crossed his face as he did spirit fingers in the air. He said he is a free-hand piercer and doesn't believe in using tools. I had never talked to or been pierced by a free-hand piercer before so my nervous-ness level was kicked into high gear. He was quite gentle as he put the needle up to my right nipple on the pre-designated mark and told me to inhale big and exhale slow. I followed his direction and the first needle was through with ease, almost like a hot knife cutting through butter (it's a favorite expression of mine). He followed the needle through with my pretty little 14g captive bead ring. He pierced my left nipple in the same manner as the right, but half way through the needle going into my little nub of flesh, he lost his line. He started to push through and realized it was going to come out crooked if he didn't backtrack a little bit and push the needle through the correct mark. DAMN did that hurt! That was soon followed through with another captive bead ring and I was now the proud owner of some very pretty pierced nipples. He gave me aftercare instructions and off I went. I made the mistake of wearing overalls that day, yea...I had to walk around holding the front of them together so they wouldn't rub on my nipples.

Even after following his aftercare instructions my nipples had a very difficult time healing. I had to take my jewelry out in the hopes that the irritation episodes would go away, they did. Once it seemed that my nipples were OK, I put jewelry back in them. Eventually stretching up to 10g barbells, which I found to be A LOT more comfortable than the captive bead rings. Due to migration, my right nipple piercing ended up tilted diagonally. It had moved a little farther forward than the other piercing but not a noticeable amount to anyone but me.

Fast-forward a couple of years.... The "X" and "+" Factor...

I decided that I really liked the way that double pierced nipples looked. Since my nipples weren't that big to begin with I had to research what my anatomy could allow as far as the placement of multiple piercings. After I made the decision I went to talk to my piercer Mandy. She looked at my exiting piercings and informed me that due to the migration that occurred in my right nipple piercing, that the second piercing she would be doing would have to be angled differently and that with two barbells in my right nipple would end up looking like an X. She also informed me that since my left nipple had healed normally and the existing barbell was completely horizontal, she would be able to place the second piercing vertically with no problems. I filled out my paperwork and picked out some 12g barbells. She brought me back into the piercing room and closed the curtain. She got the piercing tray ready with all the necessary needed supplies – gloves, needles, tools, cleansing solution (I can't remember what it was called), gentine violet, a toothpick and q-tips. She cleansed both nipples and placed her marks. Once she placed the marks I was finally able to see what she was talking about with the placement of the jewelry in my right nipple. I looked in the mirror at the placement and once I ok'ed it, she had me lie down on the table. She put the forceps on my right nipple and quicker than I could fully exhale she had pierced me and was already following the needle with the barbell. It didn't hurt any more than I remember it did the first time. She moved to the left and again before I could fully exhale she had pierced me and was following the needle through with the barbell. I had to stay laying down on the table for a few minutes due to the fact I was lightheaded. I ate an otter pop and talked excitedly with Mandy. When she felt I was ok she told me I could sit up and check out my new piercings. They looked AWESOME and very sexy I might add!! After giving me aftercare instructions I went on my merry way.

My now double pierced nipples were doing very well for a number of months. Then tragedy struck – one day out of the blue my nipples got sore. They stayed sore for a couple of weeks and calmed down. Then out of nowhere, BAM! I was hit with the worst kind of irritation a piercing could get. My nipples weren't infected and they weren't rejecting the jewelry but my body was definitely not happy with them. They were constantly crusting and occasionally bleeding. So back to my piercer I went. She looked at them and told me to switch soaps. I tried every kind of natural soap that is made and nothing helped. So she told me to just do sea salt soaks twice a day, wear a clean bra every day, change my bedsheets daily, and try to keep anything I put near my piercings as clean as possible. Nothing I tried worked, they were still pissed off and I couldn't do anything to fix it or make it any better. After a few months of them being this way I had to take them out. They were driving me CRAZY! Sadly that was the short end to my most loved set of piercings. My first set of nipple piercing were fine and unaffected by what happened to my second set of nipple piercings.
