A few months ago a friend of mine and I were talking about body modifications. We both have a shared love for them but neither of us are of age to get tattoos. Eventually, she began to persuade me to get a nipple piercing. At first, I was extremely put off. All I could think of was how much it would hurt! I've had piercings before... but I've never even considered getting my nipple done.

Studio SOB Location Simcoe, Ontario, Canada After some consideration and searching through the gallery on bmezine.com, I realized how amazing they looked. The experiences on the site didn't seem to horrible either! Needless to say, I started to want one... actually, I started to feel I needed one.
A month or two after the original conversation, I told my friend that she was going with me to get it done. We both started getting excited and decided to go that weekend. After walking to the shop with an enormous amount of pre-piercing jitters, I was completely let down; the shop was closed. Both shops were. A few weeks later I got another opportunity.
This time, we made an appointment. I took a few Advil beforehand, hoping to lessen the pain, and we walked over to SOB. Once there, the owner had me fill out the mandatory forms, (as well as my friend who was getting her conch done) and I paid my $40. He took me into the back room, pulled the curtain and this is where the fun began.
I had worn a tube top to make the process easier. The piercer (I forget his name unfortunately..) Made me feel completely at ease. He made a few jokes as he took out the piercing equipment and explained how he likes to show the customers that everything used it brand new and just being removed from packaging for them. He put some kind of gel (I'm assuming polysporin ?) on the needle and cleaned the area to be pierced with rubbing alcohol. He then looked for a marker to mark the placement. After a few minutes without finding one, he settled for purple dye applied with the dull end of a toothpick. This didn't work the best however as I'm on the thin side and my heart was beating so hard my chest was being pushed out. He got a general idea of where it should be and attached the clamps. One word; ow! They aren't too too bad but they aren't the most comfortable things to put on a girl's nip either! At this point I asked the question I'd soon know the answer to...
"Is this going to hurt a lot?"
The piercing artist kind of stopped what he was doing and said he wasn't going to lie to me, it did hurt a bit. He told me he had both of his done, one didn't hurt at all and one hurt a lot but it was worse for guys then girls. He asked if any of my friends had told me stories about it and I admitted I only had two girlfriends who had it done. He did his best to reassure me and it was somewhat comforting that he didn't lie.
Finally, he told me to take a few deep breaths and on three he would pierce me. I closed my eyes tight and gripped the armrest. The needle went through fairly well and didn't hurt much until the very centre. The pain was very temporary. He used a straight barbell and had one hell of a time putting the ball on as it was so small. Afterwards he told me about cleanup and told me I could come back in six weeks to put a ring in it (straight edge inside, round outside? If that makes any sense. It looks like a D ... actually it might actually be called a D ring. I'm not the professional here.) He told me the cleaning instructions (use softsoap on it, careful to get under the barbell as well and no touching it or body fluids until healed.) I received a card with the instructions and a number in case of concern.
I remember it burned for a few hours after it was done and there was a bit of blood for the first few days, despite it not bleeding at all upon piercing. On day three I had a nasty experience when a friend hit me hard in the boob, on accident of course, but causing it to bleed on my new bra. Yuck. Since then, it's healed nicely and the only problems I've had is occasional fluid escaping after getting it hit/pulled too often(easily cleaned and prevented with soap) and changing it to that 'd ring' (pop on balls are a pain.) I recommend this piercing to anyone as they're fun and it's an exciting secret. At times it feels extremely sensitive, in a good way! You won't regret getting this piercing as long as it's done correctly and you trust your piercer.
