Nipple piercing isn't half as bad as anyone says.

I was told for ages by my parents that I was not allowed to get my nipple pierced. It was when I turned 18 that I started seriously thinking about getting them done so, ignoring my parents (actually I didn't tell them I was getting it done) I went down to Hemel where a piercing studio is located over a hairdresser.

I was waiting outside for a few minutes whilst the piercer was busy doing a girls tongue and I was growing increasingly nervous. Id come this far though and there was no way I was going to back out now. My girlfriend was with me and she kept asking me "are you sure you want to get this done" which only added to my unease. I just looked round at the body jewellery until finally it was my turn and I went in the small studio. I sat down and told him what I wanted and gave him the money ( it cost me £70 in all for both).

This guy is a diamond. He did both my scaffolding bars for me and has a great bedside manner. He even asked my girlfriend to look at the placement and see if everything was ok. He says exactly what he's doing and shows you everything so you know what's going on.

First I had to sign the normal paper work. I had to lift my shirt up so he could mark the area which I did and then I had to lay down. He put the needle and the bar on a small metal table that he'd just covered in a fresh piece of Clingfilm. Now the clamp was not nice at all and the freezing spray he put on to keep the nipple erect was very very cold. So when the needle went through I was just thinking to myself what the hells all the fuss about. He put the bar through which was fine as well, gave me a leaflet on aftercare and off I trotted with a bandage across my chest. It was only about an hour afterwards that it started to ache but I followed all the cleaning procedures and after a few days it didn't hurt a lot anymore. It was when I came home as well that I found out that just before we left my girlfriend has said to my mother "we're just going to get Dan's nipple pierced" and although she hasn't mentioned it I know she knows. It is, obviously, a very easy piercing to hide and only when I wake up in the morning do I have to keep my sheet over my torso.

It was only the next day I decided to have the other one done as well. It took me a week to get the money together and by that time my nipple had healed very well and wasn't giving me any pain at all really. So off I went on the bus, girlfriend and all to get the other one pierced.

I arrived at the studio and I wasn't nervous this time. I thought "this will be a breeze". Silly me. I went through the same thing again except my nipple wouldn't stay up so he had to keep playing around with it which I didn't like. Then the clamp, the spray and the needle. My right ear has always been more painful to pierce then my left and it was the same for my nipple. This time it hurt. Not a lot but it did make me curl my toes inside my boots and bite down on my teeth.

I was given a spray to clean it with that didn't last long as I'm compulsive about cleaning my piercing and it was after I went to a gig and got kicked in the chest in a pit that my right nipple (ye, damn that side of my body) got infected. So following the advice of my mate I went out and bought some tea tree oil which is amazing. It cleared it up in no time. I don't know if this is recommended but it was in the ingredients that I found listed on the back of the spray I was given. I would advise anyone wanting to use it to ask a doctor first. It does sting by the way.

To be quite honest it really didn't hurt that much at all and I'm so glad I got them done. I actually quite enjoyed the feeling and am planning to get either one or both of them done again in the very near future. I would advise anyone to get them done as it is well worth the small amount of pain. My girlfriend loves them. Yours will too.
