I got my nipples pierced about six months ago by some dude at Wicked Ink in Penrith. I'd wanted them done for a VERY long time, especially after looking at photos of Suicide Girls and seeing how beautiful this piercing can look.

I was going into Penrith one day with a lot of cash jingling around in my pocket and decided today would be the day when I would get these little babies pierced. I walked in, starting to feel a few pre-piercing nerves, and asked the dude behind the counter if it would be possible to get both my nipples pierced today. He said yes, and told me to wait and give him a little time to get his stuff set up.

My heart was thudding with both nerves and excitement by the time he came back to give me the ok. I had planned to ask him to use titanium barbells for the procedure, as I had heard that their light weight made them ideal for healing new piercings, and I had every intention of looking after and healing my new friends.

Unfortunately, when I asked if I could use barbells, the dude said that they didn't use barbells for piercings at their shop, as they are harder to clean for the piercee. I had my doubts here, as I had heard from many a good source that using barbells was definitely the way to go for female nipples, but I just went "oh, ok..." and let him do his thing with the captives.

Then, when he was about to mark me up, I asked if he could pierce them on a diagonal, like this ( \ ) ( / ) and he said that it would mean I would have trouble breastfeeding in the future, as the piercing would have to go straight through the nipple. I was under the impression that all nipple piercings had to go straight through. I wondered what he would have done if left to his own devices, so I just told him that diagonal was the only way I wanted to go, so that's what he did. I was also under the impression that healed nipple piercings presented no problems to breastfeeding at a later date, but would appreciate any feedback any readers can give me on this one, as kids would be great one day, and I would hate to not be able to breastfeed due to one of my mods.

I noticed that I was sweating a LOT, and had developed some sort of wierd red blotchiness on my chest and was freaking out a bit, but the actual piercing itself didn't hurt that much. It was uncomfortable, but definitely not unbearable. I walked out of the shop a hundred bucks lighter and with two captive rings through my diagonally pierced nipples.

A month and a half down the track, all pain and most crustiness had gone away, but my piercings looked a little strange, and I thought I should invest in some barbells very soon. I went to Holier Than Thou piercing studio in Parramatta, and the very helpful girl there told me that the captive rings which had been used to pierce my nipples were far too small in diameter, and that if I had left them in too much longer, they would have started to grow out. I immediately bought correctly sized barbells and was on the right path again. I also was told that it was bad to use captives to pierce female nipples anyway, as the diameter needed for the piercing would cause irritation in the healing process. THAT made sense to me, and I saw where I went wrong in just choosing a clean studio, and not researching their procedure first.

Now, six months later, I am still having small problems with my piercings. Sometimes I get little balls of pus appearing beside the bottom balls of my piercings. I assume they are from the ball rubbing against my nipples, and I'm not quite sure what to do about them. I am also still crusting up a little, even though I clean my piercings and shower regularly. I love my piercings so much, but I wish I could help them heal completely.

My experience has taught me that it is a REALLY good idea to put a lot of research into your studio, and once you find a good place, stick to it, because building a rapport with your piercist is essential if you ever want something unusual done, and have to put your confidence completely in the hands of your piercist. I thoroughly recommend Holier Than Thou in Parramatta, as without their help, on this occasion I could have been left with two grown out scars instead of a beautiful pair of diagonal piercings.
