Let me first start off by saying that I think nipple piercings are really hot. Following that train of thought, I found myself sitting in a piercer's studio at 16 getting it done for the first time. The process was pretty much the same as any other piercing and went quite smoothly. I'd had it for about a year when I started having some trouble.

I put in a curved pink plastic barbell with no problems. However I think the plastic is where things may have started to go wrong. About two weeks later it started to get really infected.
I eventually stopped by the piercer's to find out if there was anything else I could do, since the cleaning didn't seem to be doing anything. The main advice I was given by the people working there was under no circumstances should I take a piercing out when it is infected because the infection may get trapped inside. So, being the good girl that I am... I decided to follow their advice and just wait it out.
Unfortunately, shortly after, during the course of a pretty crazy weekend, I woke up and it was gone and the holes had closed completely by the morning (when I discovered it missing). I was pretty upset about this because it was my favourite piercing to date.
I really wanted it back, so a couple of days later I again found myself at the piercer's. I was talking to the guy at the desk, who informed me I'd have to wait another 4 weeks before getting it redone so that everything had time to heal properly.
I ended up waiting a little bit longer than a month, just because I wanted to make sure it healed properly and it was also the summer by this time and I sort of forgot about it. I made it back eventually though.
So for the third time, I found myself back at the piercing place about my nipple. Only to find when I got there that they couldn't do it for me then because I had to have a girl do it for me because I'm under 18. I hate having a late birthday. Anyways I made an appointment for the next day when there was for sure a girl working.
Same time, same place. I was really excited to get my nipple redone, but also sort of afraid because it would have to go through scar tissue this time and I'll admit it, I'm a huge baby. I filled out the appropriate forms, paid and then went to wait on one of the comfy couches. The place that I was getting it done was really nice, and clean. I've been there for all of my piercings and never had any major problems so I felt very comfortable. While I was waiting, I noticed that if you got 2 piercings done at once it was a lot cheaper and thought, I might as well... So I ended up paying $80 for 2 piercings instead of $50 for one, which is pretty reasonable.
Finally the girl was ready for me, so I walked into this little back room with a reclining chair/table. It took me a while to decide which to get done first, but finally settled on the nipple because I was more afraid of that one and wanted to get it out of the way. So the shirt came off and I was ready to go. The piecer asked me to lie down and she cleaned and then marked where she was going to put the needle through. She then asked me to stand up straight and look in the mirror to make sure it was where I wanted it and to see if it was even and straight (it was).
After establishing the position I lay back down and she put the clamp on and told me to start breathing in and out. I sort of have a tendency to hold my breath when I'm scared which apparently is really bad, because you don't get any oxygen when the needle goes through. The piercer defiantly noticed this and made me start again. So I started breathing in and out and then she was like, "ok take a deep breath in and exhale slowly" and as I started to breathe out she put the needle through.
There was a really sharp stab of pain for about a split second, she asked if I was ok, shaky nodding on my part, and then a bit more pain when she put the jewelry in. Sat up, took a look in the mirror and was immediately glad I'd gone again.
I felt fine afterwards; I got my other piercing right after, received post care sheets and then drove home. I also scared myself for nothing. It didn't hurt more the second time at all. It felt pretty much exactly the same; the pain was on par with an ear cartilage piercing. The first time I got my nipple done it stung for about an hour afterwards, but this time there was no post-pain whatsoever. It also healed really quickly and all I did was clean it daily for about 2 weeks with spectro jel.
It's been about a month now and I've had no problems so far. I think that I'm going to try changing this one to a different ring soon, but I think I'll stick with metal this time.
