This is my story of getting my left nipple pierced. I had always enjoyed nipple piercings on women and when I turned 18, I decided it was time to see how it looked on me. I have had other piercings done including some cartilage, my lip, and stretching my lobes, so I'm not new to piercings. This was the first time, though that I could go and get pierced with out my Mother coming with me and us having to go through the long process of getting notarization. I decided to go to the shop that I've had all my piercings done, Mystic Marks, in San Marcos Texas. I would recommend them to others in the area; they are very friendly and knowledgeable.

As the day approached, I did more research on the best types of jewelry to heal with and how long nipple piercings generally take to heal. With this knowledge at hand, I was ready to go. My boyfriend, Jason, and I went to San Marcos and shopped around a bit, and had a good meal. I was ready to go.

Once I entered the parlor I started to get a wee bit nervous. I talked to the piercer that was there and we decided on a 14 gauge barbell and I told him I just wanted one nipple done and he went back to get set up. This is when I became really nervous, so I started looking at the flash and jewelry they had. They had very nice nipple shields and I became more excited than nervous at the thought of being able to wear one.

Once the piercer (I forgot his name) had finished setting up for the piercing and putting a curtain to shield us from other customers, he called me back. I sat down on their piercing chair and he explained the procedure. First he asked me to take my shirt and bra off and which nipple I wanted done. I told him my left and that I wanted a horizontal nipple. He cleaned off the area and marked the placement with a toothpick and a fresh ink. He got out some clamps and set them so they wouldn't be too tight on my nipple. After asking if I liked the placement and changing his gloves, he showed me the needle in its sterile package and told me that it had never been used and wouldn't be used again when he was done with my piercing. He then opened up the package with the needle and placed some lube on it to help the needle go through easier. Next he placed the clamp, it didn't hurt at all, like usual, and we were ready to get the piercing done. He changed his gloves again and picked up the needle, it was time. I started regulating my breathing and he told me on the count of three he was going to pierce me. I smiled over at my patiently waiting boyfriend and was ready to go. As the needle went through I felt a slight pricking sensation and it was all over. It was not painful at all. Time for the jewelry to be inserted and that was another little sensation and it was all over. He gave me a mirror to see how it looked and I was thrilled. It looked beautiful and I was thoroughly pleased. My boyfriend came over for a quick look and I started to put my clothing back on. Next I was told the proper cleaning instructions, given a sheet with the piercer's name to reinforce it, and told of the healing time which is 6 month to a year to get fully healed. I was also given a package of q-tips that had a cleaning solution to use while cleaning the piercing. It was almost time to go, so I paid for the piercing and gave a generous tip because I was so happy with everything.

It's been about two months since I got this piercing done and I'm still really enjoying it. After a couple weeks having the barbell, though, I decided to change the jewelry to a ring because the barbell was getting caught on things and not helping the healing at all. So I carefully cleaned my piercing and lubed up the ring and changed it out. That worked pretty well for a while, it didn't catch on things nearly as bad as the long barbell, but it would get moved around a lot as I slept, so I bought a smaller barbell and changed it out. This has been a lot better than the longer barbell and the ring; I wouldn't recommend changing too soon from the barbell you were pierced with to a shorter barbell in case you get some swelling though. The healing has been going really well and I'm getting less and less crusties. Generally I clean off the crusties in the shower and leave it alone the rest of the time, except for when the piercing is under 2 weeks old when I clean it in the shower (at night) and used the q-tips to clean it in the morning.
