August the 18th was a very nerve-wracking day for me and many others, as it was results day for A-Levels. Whether or not I would go to Portsmouth University relied on what I received that day. Fortunately, I got an A and two Bs, and decided a celebration was in order. As you might be able to guess, I decided the best way to celebrate was to get a nipple piercing, and a week later I did. Now I've explained my title, I can describe said incident.
At A Glance Author Spoonhead Contact Spoonhead@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Jay Studio Punktured Location Brighton I am a very nervous person. If you walk into me, I'll apologise to you. Pain is one of the many things that causes anxiety in me, and before I'd decided on this piercing I'd only had a few lobe piercings and one nose piercing. Now that I think about, why I decided to go from nose to nipple is beyond me. All I knew is that it would cause much angst in my family if I walked home with an eyebrow piercing(Which I was seriously considering. Maybe when I get my degree). I also know very little about piercings, except, like art, I know what I like. I still don't know what a cbr is.
Punktured in Brighton helped me through both my nervousness and incompetence. I went with my boyfriend, and I would thoroughly recommend taking someone you trust with you to get this piercing. If Jim hadn't been there I would've chickened out, and also they offer a good hand to grip. I wasn't embarrassed as I thought I'd be asking to have the nipple pierced (I don't think I've ever even used the word nipple in public), but to be honest there was no-one else in the shop and I assumed the piercers had seen it all before. They asked me what I wanted through the nipple, and when I said I didn't know they showed me the rings and the barbells and told me to pick the one I thought looked coolest. (In so many words). I picked a ring in the end, and went through with my boyfriend to a reassuringly clean-smelling room. The lady who pierced me, whose name I think was Jay, thoroughly cleaned the chair, the equipment and everything she or I could potentially come into contact with.
I also felt less embarrassed than I thought I would removing my shirt. In fact, I felt more comfortable with my shirt off as it was pissing it down outside and I was soaked.
I was marked standing up, then laid horizontally down on the dentist style chair. Jay was very friendly, and very professional, and made me feel totally relaxed. We were chatting for a while, and I said a friend of mine had both her nipple pierced and her bellybutton pierced, and she had found the bellybutton to be the more painful. Jay immediately disagreed, and I was immediately disappointed. soon she was ready, and was leaning over me with the equipment. She explained what she was going to do throughout. She pushed the needle through when I was breathing out (Breathe in...now out...{needle}). The pain was very sharp, but only lasted a few seconds. It left me feeling very breathless. The same happened when she put the jewellery in, but as I said I was holding my beau's hand and all was good. Saying that, I also couldn't see what was going on due to the angle of the chair, and I think that helped ease the pain. In all, it didn't live up to my expectations of how much pain I'd feel. Definitely, definitely a good thing.
She gave me the priceless advice that I should sleep in a bra, which as a restless sleeper has prevented a lot of pain. (I tried to sleep without it a few days ago, but wasn't ready and had to out it back on.) She also told me that I could now face any other piercing, and I look forward to seeing if that's true.
At this stage I would like to say I read back to read what I had written, and although I have said how much of a help my boyfriend was to me, make sure that the person you take has a strong stomach. My boyfriend was paler than me, with a look of absolute horror on his face for the whole five minute experience. (That surprised me, how quickly it took place, even with the hygiene procedures. I could tell in that studio that my hopes of persuading him to get his nipple pierced too were falling to pieces.
Many writers on here say that they had to have both nipples pierced because they're afraid of it looking lopsided, but I think my lonesome nipple looks fantastic. About a month on, the piercing is Ok. It didn't bleed, at all, which surprised me, and there has been absolutely minimal crustiness. I would definitely recommend Punktured to anyone near enough to Brighton, as they are very clean, which to me was the most important thing, and friendly, which was an added bonus
