I have been facinated with body piercing for years and years. Apart from the few in my ears during school, my first non ear piercing was my navel, and it started from there.
At A Glance Author kezza Contact kezza@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Paul Errington Studio Flesh Impressions Location Broadbeach, Gold Coast. Australia I have wanted to get my nipples pierced for along time and the more I looked at pictures and read experiences in BME, the more I was determined to get it done, but the timing was never right, and I was never without the kids, so I was convinced it wasn't going to happen.
A time came up when I would be child free for a few hours, so I thought to myself "What the hell, I'll go get pierced today".
Now I was not into just getting one done at a time. For one, it would make me look lop-sided and secondly, most piercing studios do a deal when getting two done at once, and me being a little bit of a tight wad, I was going to get both done at the same time.
Now, I live in Brisbane, but I chose a studio in the Gold Coast (about 45 minute drive) because it sounded really good on its website and have heard some good things about it, so the drive did not bother me.
I drove down to Flesh Impressions after work (this was almost a week ago) and greeted Paul (the owner) at the door. He didn't have anyone in there at the time, so I went straight in after filling out the necessary paperwork.
Paul was really nice and made me feel at ease and I didn't even feel embarassed at all when I had to remove my top in front of a complete stranger (because I thought I would).
My nipple were cleaned, and because I used Emla patches, these were also removed. He then showed me the jewellery (I chose barbells) and proceded to mark me up.
I then lied down on the bed type thing and the usual deep breath in and on the out, he pierced me. I did not feel anything. The Emla Patches must've worked in a good way. It was great, and apparently there was no bleeding whatsoever(I wouldn't know because I won't look at the needle).
Now was time for the second nipple. Now, I've read countless times that the second one hurt considerably more, and that was from girls who didn't use Emla at all, so I was expecting abit more to it. The usual breath in and on the breath out, the needle went through. Now, I didn't feel this one abit more, but it was definately bearable (abit like giving blood). Screwed in the barbells, and I was all done. I had pretty nipples, finally.
I paid Paul, both nipples plus jewellery and aftercare cost me $130 which is a fairly fair price around here, chatted for a while, then left. It was definately worth the drive. Now, I am a firm believer in "You get what you paid for", so I did not necessarily go for the cheapest option. Flesh Impressions definately was not the cheapest around, but I liked the look of the website and the fact that Paul always answered back my emails about asking questions and booking an appointment, confirming etc.
Cleaning has been easy. Soak with Sea Salt for about 10 minutes prior to going into the shower, then in the shower, lather the cleaning ointment he gave me onto the piercing and rinse thoroughly. Easy. My nipples have not given me any trouble at all so far and did not even hurt one bit. I was lucky.
Now I mention to people, that if you are thinking about this piercing, definately go for it, because it is well worth it, but if you feel a little squimish about the needle going through a sensitive part of your body, give the Emla Patches a go. You can get them from any chemist, and they definately take the edge off the procedure.
And if you are in the Gold Coast area, give Paul at Flesh Impressions a go. He is great, and really puts you at ease. I will definately be going back next time (maybe for a Rook or Daith piercing). The studio was small but very clean and hygenic and Paul does a fantastic job.
I love my nipples, and although I know that my husband will freak when he sees them (yes, I've managed to hide them from him for almost a week), which is probably not the best idea, I love them all the same and they are my fave piercing to date. As soon as they have healed, I will change the plain barbells to something abit more prettier, that would be the icing on the cake (so to speak)
Happy piercing
