I have been wanting to get my nipples pierced for several years. My ex-boyfriend at the time told me where he got his done at and he didn't have any problems with them. So I researched everything that you can about nipple piercings..like can you still breast feed with them in..which you can. So after about 2 years of having to wait, I was only 16 when I starting thinking about getting them and there was no way in hell my mom would let me get them done. To this day she still doesn't know I had them done. It was my little secret...well my fiance knew too...obviously since it affected him.

So I finally got up the courage to get it done. I talked my friend into taking me so I wouldn't have to worry about driving myself home after the whole ordeal. She came to pick me up and we told the parentals we were going shopping..which was partially true. We went to the piercing studio when it opened and it was all clean and hospital smelling..which is a good smell in a piercing studio. I filled out the paperwork, while I talked to the piercer about the piercing and the jewlery. So I finally paid and all that fun stuff.

I asked for the barbells because I like the way they look better than the rings (which was probably my first mistake). So my friend and I go to the back room which was all clean and stuff. The piercer asked if one of the other guys that is in training could watch, sure no problem. I wasn't that modest about it. So the piercer opens all the needles and the barbells in front of me. He gets everything ready and when he was ready I took off my shirt and bra and sat down in the dental looking chair. He cleans the nipples and marks them and I get ready to have this sharp needle go through my nipple. Holy s**t. Let's just say a few..okay alot of cuss words came out of my mouth. It hurt so bad. No one could have prepared me for it. Mainly because the piercer said "oh it is more painful for the guys than the girls" So i really wasn't thinking it would hurt that bad. I thought my pain tolerance was pretty high (I got a tattoo on my lower back and it didn't hurt that bad) So we had one down and one more to go. He gets the other one done...with me slightly kicking him..opps. I did tip him pretty good though, so I am sure he really didn't mind.

The barbells get put in place and he explains the aftercare. Anti-bacterial soap that was unscented twice a day and no hot tub or pool for at least the first month. When I got them done I really didn't pay attention to how long the barbells were. So I left and went home and followed the aftercare instructions to the "T". But they weren't healing very fast at all.

This is where I made my mistake. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have either gotten the rings and just changed them out after they were healed or paid attention to the length of the barbells...see my nipples are little bigger(wider) than the average so the length that i had was a little short so the balls were just too close to my nipples and they couldn't really heal that well at all. They just couldn't get air to them to breath so they would heal faster. So I had moved to another country and couldn't really get to a piercing studio.

So I fought infection after infection without them healing and I just decided to take them out after 7 months of dealing with the infections. So i was heartbroken to take them out..and so was my husband..he really liked them. So now that I know what happened and what went wrong I may get them done again. Although to get them repierced it is probably going to hurt twice as much since they will probably have to go through the scar tissue.

But I went to that studio thinking the piercer knew what he was doing since hey he had the experience. But I guess he really wasnt paying attention to it and I know that I will never go back to that place to get them done again.

So if you have slightly wider nipples either get the rings like it is recommended, you can always change them when they heal or make sure they look at your nipples before they pick out what they think will work for the average person. Also, make sure you get some Provon..it is the anti-bacterial soap that hospitals use..very good for piercings like this one. The studio didn't even have any of that so one of my friends who goes to another studio got me some...I should have just gone to that studio to get it done, probably would still have my piercings if i did. But now that i know and my lesson has been learned I know what to look for next time.
