I have had my tongue pierced for 7 years now, and my belly button pierced for 6 years. Before I pierced my nipples I also had two tattoos, so I pretty much knew what kind of pain I was in for when I started thinking about getting my nipples pierced.
At A Glance Author Kristen Contact Kristen@bme.anon When Two years ago Studio Iron Age Studios Location St. Louis, MO Before I decided to get my nipples pierced I did a lot of research on the subject as far as healing times, common problems, routine care, and breastfeeding. I even talked to my doctor about it, and she said that piercing your nipples only cuts off about 5-8 milk ducts in your nipple, but each nipple has around 30-35 ducts. So despite what some people might say, you CAN still breastfeed with piercings (although the doctor mentioned that it isn't safe to breastfeed with the piercing in, too many germs get in the baby's mouth, plus if the jewelry comes apart the baby could choke--eek!)After everything I read was to my satisfaction, I told my boyfriend about my idea.
He HATED the idea of me getting them pierced, but I explained to him that I was doing it for ME and no one else, so it didn't really matter what he liked or didn't like. I have a place where I normally go for all my tats, but they were closed by the time I finally decided to get them done so I went to Iron Age down in the Delmar Loop instead.
There were some pros and some cons to going to Iron Age. I really liked the professional set up of the place--they had a much larger variety in tattoo artists and piercers. Everything was clean, pretty much like a doctor's office (only with much better music!). However, they were definitely overpriced but I was dead set on getting them done so I paid for it. My piercer explained everything and told me about how to care for them, etc. She marked the spots she was going to pierce and let me check them out to make sure they were right where I wanted them.
I made my boyfriend hold my hand because I didn't know how badly it would hurt. We are pretty rough in the bedroom and he often would pinch or bite my nipples so I would say that I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. When she pierced it, the only thing i could say was "oooh, that kinda hurt!" but at the same time it was INCREDIBLE. I was definitely eager for her to pierce the other nipple.
Now here's one thing that I must stress: if you have bigger nipples (not the whole areola, I'm talking about the tips) the piercing might twist once they go soft again. This is exactly what happened to one of my nipples. A few weeks later after I really noticed it I asked about it and the piercer told me that "it happens sometimes" which kind of pissed me off because instead of having two horizontal piercings, I had one that was diagonal! She didn't even offer to fix it, or to give me some money back either which is why I will not go to Iron Age again.
Even though one of my piercings is f*cked up, I'm not planning on taking it out to have it redone. Even though they're not symmetrical they're still MY piercings and they are all unique.
What I would recommend doing is letting the piercer mark your nipples, then let them go soft (which might be hard, especially if you're excited about it!) and THEN seeing if the marks are still even. That way you won't end up with f*cked up piercings.
All in all, I think it was definitely worth the pain (mostly after getting them pierced, your nipples rub up against more things than you would imagine...).
I wouldn't take my piercings out for the world, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!
And the best part is that right after my boyfriend and I left the studio, he was really excited about them....he even called the piercer to ask how long until we could start pulling and playing with them!!! We both love it and it has definitely helped our sex life!!!
My mom thinks it's slutty, but I love my nipple rings. They're fun to play with if I'm sitting at home bored. As far as jewelry goes, the rings are fun, barbells look much cooler, but nipple shields are the SHIT!!! Not only do they keep your nipples hard, but there are so many different cool designs to choose from. Plus with me having a messed up piercing, you can't really tell when I wear my nipple shields.
Nipple rings are great attention getters. If you're wearing a tight shirt it seems that everyone notices the rings! It's great, I would recommend it to anyone! I tried convincing my mom to get hers done, but she refuses. :(
