I used to be so conservative when it came to piercings. I waited until I was ten to get my ears pierced, and got myself really sick when I finally went to get it done. Flash forward to me turning 18. I got my nose, lip, and navel done. Also, I got four tattoos. But these next two piercings were ones I never thought I'd get done.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When It just happened Studio tattoo garage Location bloomfield, nj After a particularly stressful Spring semester (as a freshman) I decided to get my nipple pierced when I got home. Sort of a 'congratulations' present to myself. I had always wanted to get it done, and it's not even that I'm afraid of pain. Just the thought of flashing some random person creeped me out. What can I say? I just don't have an awesome pair to flaunt. Anyway, I was home for one day and decided that now is as good a time as any other. I had better do this while I'm still militant about the idea, before I have the chance to chicken out. Under the cunning ruse of 'going to fill the car up with gas', I head off to Tattoo Garage, which came pretty highly recommended. I didn't know exactly where it was, so I had my directions handy. Unfortunately it's located on a fairly crowded main street. Somehow I find a parking space, over on a little side street and get ready for what was sure to be an interesting experience. I get up to the door and realize I forgot my wallet, so it's another 30 minute drive home, sitting in traffic. It sucked because something like that, you just want to get over with, no need to prolong the antici—pation (please excuse the tacky Rocky Horror reference). After triple checking that my wallet is indeed in my purse, I head off again. Hey, at least I knew for sure where the shop was located now.
I climbed the steps of the shop and everyone seemed really nice when I got through the door. I tell them I want to get my *gulp* nipple pierced, and actually sold me on getting them both done, which I was actually considering beforehand. I whipped out my ID, because, hey, I was no piercing virgin, I knew the drill. I talked to the owner as the piercer went to set everything up. Finally I was called in...it was go time.
Everything was neatly laid out and he showed me that everything was sterile. He explained the entire process and I felt fairly comfortable considering I'd be naked from the waist up in a few minutes. He showed me the jewelry and I was kind of bummed that they were rings. I'd wanted barbells, but he explained that the hoops are easier to clean and heal better. So I decided I would just have to put up with my boobs looking like door knockers for six weeks. I'm one of those people that talks loud and fast when they're nervous. I guess it must have been pretty funny to hear me go from a normal to loud tone as the needle pierced my skin. Okay, one down, I'm halfway done. He said that there was no rush and whenever I was ready, he'd start the next. I didn't want to prolong it so I took a quick breather and braced myself. Having done extensive research on nipple piercings, I knew the second one hurts more. And it did . . . oh, it did. After both of the rings were in, it was time to actually close the jewelry. I just felt a little pinch, which was nothing compared to the pain I was already experiencing. I fumbled to get my bra back on. I felt like when I was a little girl who just got my bra and couldn't quite get the hang of it. Just because I felt at ease, didn't mean I wanted the 'DD twins' to be exposed for any longer than they had to be. He explained the cleaning and aftercare procedure until I knew it like the back of my hand. I still felt a little pain, but at least the experience was friendly, and most importantly clean. Time to face the long drive home. I wasn't quite sure how difficult it would be to drive. I risked getting pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. I figured I'd simply explain to the cops that I just got my nipples pierced. I'm sure they would have understood. I drove with me elbows out to my sides, calmly screaming all the way. I didn't think I looked weird yelling in the car, after all I am in New Jersey, and we all scream in our cars here!
So it's been four days and the pain has significantly reduced. I'd definitely suggest this piercing to anyone who wants something semi-private and is willing to deal with some pain. It'll be worth it in the end. You'll totally be the envy of all your friends.
