Since about the age of 15, I've had an obsession with wanting to get my body pierced. I can always remember seeing people having barbells and rings through eyebrows, noses, lips etc and the idea excited me! I got my first piercing just after my 15th birthday- my tragus. This was a major step for me and I loved the attention it got from people. After having my eyebrow and lip done I had my nipple pierced horizontally. Then came the day when I decided to get a new piercing and decided it to be a vertical nipple to join the horizontal.

My parents are typical and believe that any piercing looks quite ugly and only ruins your body so I have always opted for piercing that wouldn't cause to much hell. I love my nipple's pierced because I can only show who I want to.

It was just my luck that when I was contemplating what studio I could get to do my piercing a friend of mine (Cassie) informed me she was going for a job as a body piercer and needed models to demonstrate on! So I got back to her explaining what I wanted and she was fine with it. I was struggling for money so I also casually added that into the conversation and she said it would be about $15 because she was training and the only cost to me was the barbell which was discounted any way.

The next day I arrived feeling confident knowing I would be fine because of my first nipple piercing not hurting to much. But things changed real soon. While waiting I started having second thoughts and was trying not to think of the pain. I mean after all, there was a lot to pierce through and my friend had never done it before. Trying to take my mind off things I read a magazine.

After a short while I was called in and luckily having Cassie doing it for me, she also offered a lot of support and calmed me down a little. Helping Cassie out was another woman about 23 who was just so kind and kept talking to me.

Cassie marked where the dots just a little behind my first piercing then decided to change it. I was breathing heavier and heavier but I still wanted to go through with it. The anticipation was building and I wished that it could be over.

After about 3 attempts she finally marked out a good spot and clamped my nipple. The pain of a clamp feels like a nipple cripple but doesn't seem to hurt to bad.

"Did you want to take a deep breath or count to 3...?" Cassie asked me

"Just do it" was all I managed before the needle made its way into my nipple.

My insides just wanted me to scream "F—K" but I managed to keep it in.

After a few seconds that much loved feeling of having a needle stuck through your flesh came to me and I loved it. I looked down on the nipple and saw for the first time that a piece of plastic keeps the hole open while the barbell is ready to be inserted. Because of the expected swelling, Cassie made the choice to use a 14 gauge bar but used balls of a 14 gauge bar.

After she pulled the needle out I was on the verge of tears and I'm not one to cry easily.

After little trouble she managed to screw the barbell through and stopped the small trickle of blood running down my body. I laid there in a small amount of pain just staring at the white ceiling above me. I could hear Cassie talking to the women but I was taking no real interest in what they were discussing and I was quite happy laying there.

I stood up and looked in the mirror gladly at my new piercing- It looked awesome and I was happy I had the courage to go through with it. A lot of people after looking at it turn away wincing thinking of the pain associated with having a needle, then a metal bar slid through your nipple.

So far I've had mixed emotions on it, people think it looks awesome while the majority thinks I was a dickhead for getting it

I look down at my nipple every now and again and I love the thought of having 2 piercings through the one area. So far, I like it the most out of the current piercings I have.

The advice I can give to people thinking about getting their nipple vertically just remember that the nipple is sensitive and that it you already have you nipple done then the bar is going to be further back then the actual nipple and going through the base. This is a lot more pain then I encountered then my first nipple.

Final Thought- Vertical nipples look so much better then horizontal bars so go crazy and enjoy the fruits of your labor
