Early 2004 I wanted my Labret pierced, being a guy in my late 30s I was talked out of it by nearly every straight laced person I know. I got my nose done instead. Cant see the difference but seems more acceptable (especially to Mrs Straightlaced)

After having had the nose done, and then doing a self job on my ear, I still felt incomplete. What could I do??

I had spoke with a few people, my boss included, about the reaction and fallout of visible piercings in a business environment and decided that I would not take that course. The nose had caused some concern in the company and possibly cost me a promotion (not that I took the stud out) Why does the external appearance of a person affect the way they do their job? Why do people think that a nose stud (or labret for that matter) make me less capable?

Anyway, I had always thought pierced nipples to be sexy, both on guys and gals, so I thought that was the way to go. My wife wanted an extra ring in her ear so I suggested we make it a couple thing and go together. Off we go, me full of nerves but at least I had made the committment to get it done. After 3 walkpast for my nose, I needed the extra push of the buddy piercing to get me there.

I had learned that a pierced nipple is much more sensitive than unpierced and since I do not seem to have any feeling there I felt envious of my wife who can hit the peaks from nipple stimulation alone. I didnt expect to go that far but a tweak to get me fired up would be good sometimes.

We show up at the studio and she gets taken in first. A few minutes later its me! In I go, get my shirt off and have some discussion about which nipple. Is there some unwritten code about which side means what? I do not know but since my left ear and left nostril both have been pierced, I went left. I was later told that we have a "pain tolerant side" to our body and most people will favour that for piercing even at a sub concious level.

The texta dots and check to see if its level - yes lets do it.

I lay down and the clampy thing is attached and the she says to relax as "It will just feel like a bit of a niple cripple." A bit!!! A BIT!!!!!!! The woman doing the job admitted that it was a lot more than a normal nipple cripple but the pain was only a few seconds long then it felt good. I mean real good. For the rest of the day I was on some sort of high. Just a hint of discomfort was evident for a few days but more the sort that reminds you that you are alive. Surprisingly there was no blood at all, my nose bled like a stuck pig for 10 minutes but nipple not so.

After having watched Mrs Straightlaced have two children, I am sure it was he that went through more pain and the after effects sure didnt keep me awake at night for the next umpteen years worrying.

Since then the healing process went well and I think it looks great. For some reason, the stud that started level is slowly going off level but I figure its me body and I am proud of it. A quick twist levels it back out and it stays that way for a few days. I am yet to figure out that part of it. It must just be a skin serttling thing but anyone else that gets it done, if your skin is toned and fresh, you should have no trouble. I have the body of a guy in his late 30s and, well, I could use some gym work.

** A tip to any Aussie Rules players out there considering getting a nipple pierced - do it in the off season. I have tried taking a few chest marks with only 8 weeks since I had the stud in and it stings big time.

I still get asked why I got it done but I can not give any sensical answer, I just felt I needed to to get me past the stage I am at. It also has the bonus of being temporary or a permanent as I want it to be

I will be back, I am hooked on it now. But what to get next: I am thinking the labrette if I start some holidays to let the swelling down over the break - or maybe a crossover on the nipple. I will keep you all posted
