My fiancée and I had been together only about 3 months when she brought up the topic of nipple piercing. She had several piercings (primarily ear), and thought I might like one. Since my occupation won't permit to have any visible piercings, I had to choose something discrete; and not being pierced before, I was a little hesitant about piercing my nether-regions. Nipples sounded like a good way to go; and I liked nipple stimulation anyway.

As wise men say, the fear of the unknown is often worse than the reality as was the case with me. I started getting pretty nervous about the piercings a few hours beforehand. Though I have donated blood a multitude of times in my life and felt very little pain, I was genuinely concerned about a thick needle piercing a wad of my skin especially in this very sensitive area. It didn't help that my friend who referred me to Somatic had told me that the piercers there only teach you a breathing technique to help with the pain rather than administering any topical analgesics. Anyway upon arrival, my fiancée and I met David who would be facilitating our piercings (she was getting her navel re-pierced). While he readied himself, we shopped for our jewelry. I was quite grateful to have had someone there to help with this since I am not very fashion-conscious (it was an easy call though to choose barbells over hoops). We made our choices, signed our consents, and headed to the room. It was here that I immediately felt relief. The lobby area is very nicely decorated with many pictures of body adornments by different cultures; but I was really quite impressed with how sterile the client rooms were. Being in the medical field myself, this professionalism did a lot to soothe my nerves.

Since we didn't know how I would react, my fiancée and I decided I would go first. This was old-hat for her anyway. David took great pains to work with me on my breathing, and diligently reviewed all the steps of the process (so there wouldn't be any surprises). He made sure to carefully mark the entry and exit of each nipple while I was standing to insure symmetry. After that it was time to lie down. Here's where I started to get nervous. Now as I said, I've donated blood countless times in my life; but I am very careful not to look at the process. It was the same here. I closed my eyes and began my deep breathing. David went over the process one more time before we proceeded. He determined that my right nipple was more sensitive; hence we would do that one first. As countless writers have said, the fun begins on the count of 3. Now it was not excruciating by any means, but I'm sure I grimaced slightly. I equate it to roughly 3 times the pain of donating blood. The point is though that it lasted but a moment. I'm not into the feeling of getting pierced just the feeling of the piercing. I was quite happy with the brevity of the pain. Though I've read that some people experience slightly more pain when the jewelry goes in, I felt nothing but warmth and relief when mine went in. Very quickly David moved onto the left nipple. Now I had this experience under my belt, so I knew what to expect. Surprisingly though this piercing hurt slightly more than the right nipple. Perhaps because my endorphins were waning, who knows; but it equaled about 3.5 times the pain of giving blood. Overall though the pain was fleeting. This nipple also felt relieved to have the jewelry in. After David cleaned me up, I was off the table and watching my fiancée get repierced.

Once we left Somatic we headed out for a night on the town. My seat belt made things slightly uncomfortable but nothing bad. I really didn't feel much pain at all. I just knew they were there which is the fun part! After-care was rather easy- I used the sea salt given to me by Somatic. Mixed it properly and poured it into shot glasses which I held on my nipples for 5 minutes, twice daily. I avoided using soap there for some time since that tends to dry out the skin. I also made sure to keep chest hairs away from the barbells so they get entangled. Lastly I diligently cleaned the piercings using the sea salt solution and a Q-Tip. All in all it was a very easy experience.

That was about 5 months ago now; and my nipple piercings have healed wonderfully. In fact, I would estimate that they were adequately healed after about 2-3 months. I've been toying with the idea of getting another one since I like my current ones so much; and recently decided I would go all out, and get 5 at my next sitting (in a week). Stay tuned...
