My experience: My husband and I discussed having my nipples pierced for quite a while before it happened. I was getting more and more interested in piercings and had just had my navel re-pierced and my ears pierced several more times.
I was afraid. I have had pain in my nipples before. I breastfed for four years straight, I know pain. One of my children chewed a hole in my right nipple and I knew that a wound in that area hurt like hell and took a long time to heal.
My breastfeeding history is actually important here, simply because I have scar tissue in the nipple itself.
We were waiting for a check to come in with the money we had set aside to have the piercings done. We had spoken with Lenny and his wife Strawberry about the procedure and had stashed away the $135 that we needed to get gold rings.
My husband called me to let me know the money had come in and I told my boss I needed to leave early. I met my husband at the shop and we walked in to talk with Lenny.
I must stop the experience here simply because I need to rave about my piercer. Lenny is the most amazing man. He gives detailed descriptions of each procedure that he does and will answer any question that you have. He and his wife Strawberry own their own business and are in it for the pleasure of their clients. Health and safety are their primary concerns and they provide fabulous aftercare.
Back to the story. Lenny checked my license and signed me in, even though he knows me by name. After the sign in, he walked me back to the bathroom where he measured my nipples. We discovered that he did not have gold rings in the size that I needed. I have rather large nipples and he needed ¾" rings.
My husband and I talked, with lots of input from Lenny, and we decided to go ahead and have them done in surgical stainless steel. I have reacted to the steel in the past, but have had no problems with my most recent piercings.
Lenny went into the back room and washed his hands before returning to the front and preparing everything for the procedure. He put up screens around the chair allowing space for my husband to sit beside me. He cleaned the tabletop and laid out a paper towel. He slipped on some gloves and dropped my rings into the cleaning solution while he pulled out needles, clamps and the capture beads.
After putting everything together, Lenny had me take off my shirt on put it over the back of the chair. I pulled my bra off of my shoulders and down over my stomach. Lenny had me sit up straight in the chair and he marked each nipple to insure that the piercings would be level.
When he pulled out the clamps, I wimped out. I leaned my head back and closed my eyes. Lenny, who had been talking to me through the entire procedure, told me that it was fine if my eyes were closed, as long as I didn't move.
Because my eyes were closed, I have no idea what happened next, but here is what I felt. He clamped my left nipple, which hurt like hell. When the needle punched through my skin, it almost felt as though it was burning me from the inside out. He quickly pushed the ring into place and moved to my right nipple.
The clamp on my right nipple hurt worse and I forgot to breathe for a moment. The needle going through this nipple felt like nothing I had ever felt before. Lenny knew that my baby had chewed through my nipple five years ago, but neither of us knew how bad the scar tissue was. The needle went through the scar tissue and I came close to passing out.
Both Lenny and my husband encouraged me to breathe and Lenny quickly put in the ring and attached the captured beads to each ring.
Afterwards, Lenny helped me put my bra back on so that the rings wouldn't be disturbed and began cleaning up. My husband helped me slip on my shirt and I began to doze off in the chair. Lenny noticed and made me sit up and answer questions until he was sure that I was awake.
Lenny gave me my Ivory soap, my antibacterial salve for the exterior and the antimicrobial soap along with instructions on how to care for my new jewelry. We went home and explained to the children that Mommy's boobs hurt. I went to bed, feeling good.
The next morning, I woke up feeling awful. The pain in my breasts was horrid and I could barely move the rings when I was cleaning them. I went to work, praying that no one would touch me. That evening, I came home and showered again, amazed that something that looked so good could feel so bad.
This continued for three days. On the third day, I woke up and my breasts didn't hurt. I was able to clean them with no difficulties and began to really appreciate my latest modifications.
At four weeks, Strawberry called and they had received my gold rings. Lenny refused to change them out since he never changes jewelry that soon after a piercing. I begged and he agreed to look at them. When he looked at my piercings, he asked me several times if I was sure about when they had been pierced. He said that he has never seen any that healed so well.
Lenny relented and changed out the rings. I now have a ¾" gold ring, with a red gilded captured bead in each nipple. I love them and as I reach the three-month point, my husband is becoming more excited, as he will get to play with them soon.
Did it hurt? Hell yeah. Would I have it done again? Absolutely.
