Last Friday, I made a decision that would change the way I look at myself, my relationships, and my life. Lately I had become slightly depressed because of the way a friendship of mine had taken its toll on me. I was tired, spring was just about to emerge, and I needed to adjust myself to represent the "new" me. The past few weeks I had been contemplating the idea of getting both my nipples pierced. They look beautiful on women, and this modification would be extreme enough (in my opinion) to be a constant reminder of where I am at this point in my life.

I called around places in town, and found one studio, Holeshot Tattoo, that was going to have a piercer available that day. So I collected myself, my roommate, and some money, and began to look around for the shop. Upon entering, I found out that the piercer was not in yet, and that I'd have to wait about an hour. That was alright with me, seeing that I hadn't eaten a big enough meal yet. My roommate and I got some lunch, then I noticed after eating that I missed a call. We walked back to the shop, and the guy at the counter then told us that the piercer called, and she'd be another hour. Damn, I thought. After walking around, going window shopping, etc. for another hour, we went back to the studio again. 7pm rolled around, and my roommate had to leave to go to work by 8pm. Oh well, my moral support was gone, but I had originally planned to go without her anyway. Another 20 minutes or so , and two more cigarettes later, and finally the piercer arrived.
The piercer, Colleen, got my paperwork all set up, and copied my ID, and went over aftercare with me first. Then we went in the back room. I was a little weary of the room, as it didn't look wholly immaculate. It was a kind of worn down shop and the room was only closed by two curtains, but other than that, everything looked pretty sterile. I used the bathroom, which was adjacent to the piercing room, and waited for Colleen to get everything set up.
She went over all the procedural stuff with me, which I already basically knew. I did a lot of reading up here on BMEzine, and plus I've already had a hood piercing done, so I pretty much knew what to expect. Since I had eaten many hours prior to her arrival, she had me eat these two glucose tablets, that tasted like large Smarties, to get my bloodsugar up incase my body decided to flip out on me. She informed me that she'd be piercing me at 10 gauge, 5/8". I was hoping to go with 12 gauge, but she said that she did almost all her piercings at 10 gauge, so I wasn't' going to argue with her. I can switch over to 12 gauge later down the road anyway. Colleen gloved up, and sterilized both my nipples. She spent a couple minutes making her marks based on each breast's shape and size. I checked the placement out, and it seemed fine to me. Then she proceeded to clamp my left nipple. Now I heard that this is probably the most uncomfortable part, but it wasn't too bad, actually. She had me do the usual "three breaths" thing, and on the exhale of the third breath, she pierced me. Boy was this a lot different from getting my hood pierced. Instead of a quick, sharp pain, it was more of a dull, slower sensation, because obviously a nipple is fleshier than a clitoral hood is. The pain was not excruciating though. I think I might have whinnied a tiny bit. She decided that she wouldn't cork that needle, but that she would the second. Now, I'm a bit fuzzy as to whether or not Colleen went to pierce the second nipple before inserting any jewelry, all I recall is her corking the second needle, and putting in the large horseshoes when all was done. My right nipple decided to bleed a little bit, and still does upon cleaning (but only a miniscule amount).
I paid Colleen, and left her a tip. I was so happy Holeshot was having a "Post Spring Break Special"... get one piercing, get the second one at half off! The nipple piercing was $40 and $20 for the second. This truly helps for poor, college students.
Right afterward, my nipples decided to be sore, of course. They were probably thinking "whoa, what the hell is this large metallic object doing here?" The first night was the most uncomfortable, but then I discovered that bras are actually a lot better for keeping the jewelry in place while I'm sleeping. It's only been a few days, and the twins are doing pretty well. Cleaning stings a little bit, but it's nothing that disables me from everyday activities. I clean it twice a day with Dial Antibacterial push pump soap, and usually give it a salt soak before I go to sleep. Hopefully in a couple months it will be healed enough to change my jewelry to 12 gauge CBRs or straight barbells.
So overall, this has been nothing but a positive experience for me. The day of my piercing, the buds began to come out and it was the first truly summer-like day of the year. Not only did the weather signify a change for the better, my new nipple rings did as well.
