So you want to know about my new pretties huh? Well, I'm a total over achiever in every sense of the term, so I spent a lot of time on BME and various chat board getting as much information about this piercing as I possible could; the risks, the experiences, the look, all of it. I wanted to be armed and ready. Okay, so I'm a dork, sue me!

So after months of research I finally decided that I did in fact want to get my nipples pierced. Now, when all of this started 4 years ago with my tongue piercing, I never in a million years imagined that I would ever take it "this far" as my mother likes to say. Ha! Well, I guess what everyone says is true – once you start, it's hard to stop! So after a few emails with one of Barbella's piercers, Isaac, I decided to visit the shop and see what they were all about.

So off my husband and I went and we were greeted by Steve, the "head piercer" as Isaac called him (he warned me ahead of time that he didn't work weekends and that Steve would be my piercer). First off, Steve was an absolute angel. He talked to me about what I wanted, let me have my little freak out in the lobby, and helped me pick some new jewelry for my ears as well! The first thing I have to say is that the place was super clean. Even my husband was impressed. So while I filled out paperwork and paid, Steve got everything all set up.

Of course the piercing room had the requisite "dentist" chair. I hate those chairs, probably because I hate the dentist! So anyways, I sat down and started getting anxious again. Like I said, Steve was a total sweetheart the whole time, talking to me while he got everything together. I finally asked if my mother-in-law could come and "hold my hand" so to speak. He didn't have a problem with it and she was happy because she wanted to watch. So he changed the jewelry in my ears first, prolonging the inevitable as far as I was concerned! When he finished that he changed gloves again and set up the tray for my piercing. Finally, he told me to go ahead and "undress." I was wearing a halter top, so I asked him if I could just undo the shoulder strap and leave the shirt around my belly. He said that wasn't a problem. Now, I'm not really the modest type, so I don't know why, but that made me feel 100% better.

Anyways, Steve followed all the hygiene procedures we all hear about to the letter. New gloves, new needles, etc. So finally he started prepping the area and after teasing me about how tiny my nipples were, started marking. He must have marked at least 3 or 4 times to make sure he was happy with the placement. Fine by me! So finally he put the pen to the side and grabbed the first needle. He told me to take a deep breath and let it out. Half way through the exhale he pushed the needle through causing me to exhale the rest really quickly. Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad and he laughed at the look of surprised relief on my face. I looked down to see a little needle through my little nipple. Hooray! So then we did the second one and then he put the jewelry in. We decided that barbells would be best since I'm a little top heavy for such a small person. Now, I don't know how, but Steve has the gentlest touch of anyone who's ever pierced me. The jewelry insertion wa s so smooth I barely felt it. And coming from a tongue piercing where insertion was mildly uncomfortable and a navel piercing where it was borderline excruciating, I was shocked to say the least. I must say, it was by far the best piercing experience I've ever had.

So he rolled back in his chair and took a look at his work. He looked at my mother in law and said something about them looking awesome, even if he did say so himself. The three of us just burst out laughing; loud enough that my husband had to ask what was up from the lobby (he couldn't join us since he almost passed out when I got my tongue and navel done).

So armed with my aftercare kit (that included a 20% off coupon for my next visit!) we went over aftercare and Steve sent me on my way.

I've had my tiny little barbells in for 2 weeks and I couldn't be happier. They have been an easy piercing to care for and overall they seem pretty happy. I only had dull pain for about 24 hours, though I sleep with a pillow over my chest to protect my pretties from my puppies! Though I didn't think I had much swelling, I'm seeing a little more of the bar every day.

Even in just 2 weeks, these piercings are so much easier than my navel ever was. I'm washing twice a day and doing salt soaks with tea tree oil once a day. I can't complain, they are some happy little piercings.

For all the agonizing I did over getting this piercing, they are my absolute favorite! I don't think I could live without them. So for anyone on the fence – go for it! They are absolutely worth it!
