Piercings below the neck had always fascinated me but the only one I could have prior to my 18th birthday was my navel. So, I dreamed of my 18th birthday where I would a nipple ring in my left breast because it wasn't as sensitive and I would leave the other one the way it was because it was going to have a tattoo on it.

I had looked at nipple shields before-hand and decided that I wanted one of those. A friend of mine who recently had both of her nipples pierced told me that I would need to start with a ring and then later put in a shield. I was a little disappointed because I had already picked out the jewelry I wanted and I decided to bring it with me incase they asked if I had something in mind other than a ring.
I had woken up early that morning and I drove around campus town several times waiting for the shops to open. The place I wanted to go was Lasting Impressions but it was not open on Wednesdays. So, I went across the street to the Asylum. I picked out a purple nipple ring, paid my $20 and waited.
My friend could not believe I was going to go through with it but I am the type of person that just does something and thinks about it later. We went back into the booth where I was to get pierced and the piercer shut the blinds. He was not the regular piercer so I don't know his name. He said, "Show me what ya got." I laughed at this and exposed my breasts, telling him which one I wanted done. My friend was having a tougher time than I was. She complained that HER nipples were hurting at the thought of this.
I was reclined in the chair and he marked my boob and I looked at it in the mirror to make sure I liked it. Since I had picked a small purple ring he told me to come back if it started swelling or anything. Since I was just sitting there and my friend was such a chicken that she wouldn't look, I told her to start talking to me. While we talked I felt this quick rush of pain and pleasure radiate from my nipple and then it was done. I thought it was cool and my friend started saying, "OH MY GOD!" She has a low pain tolerance where as I can handle a lot of things.
It didn't bleed or anything. I got up and adjusted my clothes. Then, I grabbed some care instructions and sea salt on my way out. We left the shop and we were sitting in my SUV and she wanted to see it again. Since it didn't hurt, I moved my boob around to show her and that's when a bunch of blood came out! I didn't even feel it but it was SO gross! That was the only time it bled, when I moved it around to show her.
My friend that had both of hers done said hers bled for a while and so I had paper towels and Kleenex and all of that stuff with me. I made a little pad and put it inside of my bra incase it was going to bleed. Also, since I have DD boobs and they hit a lot of things it would protect the ring if I happened to brush against something.
At that point, the ring was positioned upward and the piercer had told me to rotate it and slowly work with it to get it down. But, I was not supposed to even think about touching it for the first week which was hard when EVERYONE wanted to see it! I had to show my boob so many times that week and endure poking and prodding but it didn't hurt.
This piercing is a lot easier to handle than navel or anything I had in my ears because it is right there in front of me and it's like the tissue is way different than regular skin. It has less crusties and it's generally nicer to work with.
After the fact, I cared for the piercing and the ring was too small because I could not work it into the down position and sometimes the ring would pinch. This meant that I needed a bigger ring and I advice anyone to just start with a bigger ring and not go through this because it is annoying.
I went to Lasting Impressions for this and they gave me a bigger nipple ring and told me to use Bacitraycin to help heal it. Also, they told me to switch my soap to Dial. These two things healed my piercing in weeks. It looks so nice and I know it's clean and healing correctly because of these things. They also said The Asylum could have pierced my nipple a little bit better. I just didn't want to wait because I wanted it done on my birthday and I'm fortunate that everything turned out okay. The moral is to just wait for who you want to do it to do it.
