For my eighteenth birthday I had decided that I wanted to get my nipple pierced. I already had my belly button pierced and my tongue pierced. Getting my nipples pierced was something that I had always wanted to do, but I didn't know how much it would hurt, or if it would look good on me or not. One of my friends had one of her nipples pierced, and she liked it a lot. She had also told me that it didn't hurt all that much, and that her nose had hurt a lot more. So after a while of thinking about it I decided that I would just get one nipple pierced.

So on my eighteenth birthday I got out of school and headed right over to the piercing place. It is a really clean place, when you walk in all the walls are white and there are plants and a little fountain along with couches on one side of the room. I had already checked out the place and the piercers to make sure that it was sterile and that they knew what they were doing. Everybody make sure that you always check the place out because you don't want to get a screwed up piercing. I signed all the papers and gave them my ID while I waited for them to sterilize the jewelry. Then we went in a room in the back and Noah (the piercer) told me to take off my shirt. It wasn't awkward at all, I felt completely comfortable even though I was with a guy I didn't know with my shirt off. After I did that then he told me to stand up so he cold mark my nipple, I had decided to get my left one pierced. After he marked it then he cleaned my nipple and told me to lie down. It didn't hurt at all when he pierced it or put the jewelry through. Compared to my tongue getting pierced it felt like nothing, I could barely even feel the needle or the jewelry going in. People who say that a nipple is the most painful thing to pierce must have really sensitive nipples or something. Of course sticking a nipple in your body is going to be somewhat painful, but the nipple is defenintly not one of the most painful body parts to pierce.

Then it was over with, a fairly painless procedure. I put my shirt back on and he told me that I could flip the ring up while I was sleeping if I was uncomfortable, and to wear semi tight clothing so that the new piercing doesn't move around all that much, because it can be painful if it does. The first week it was painful if somebody hit my boob but other than that it didn't hurt at all. I washed my nipple and soaked it with sea salt really reguraly, and it healed really well, but everyone kept asking me why I only had one nipple pierced. I started thinking about it and my nipples did feel pretty uneven. So finally in the middle of the summer, a little after three months after I had pierced my first nipple I felt like getting my second nipple pierced.

It was just a spur of the moment thing and I decided to follow through with it before I changed my mind. So I showed up at the piercing place again, and Noah was there. So I filled out the forms again and went through the same marking of my nipple and then I laid down. For some reason this nipple hurt much more than my other nipple had, but it still wasn't as painful as my tongue had been. So after this I went through the same healing process, only it seemed that my right nipple healed somewhat faster. However the healing process sucked because while I was cleaning my right nipple I stopped cleaning my left nipple because I thought that it was healed. I guess I was wrong. Instead my left nipple got infected and I considered taking it out. I don't recomened that if you want to get your nipple pierced again because it is much harder to push a needle through scar tissue of an already healed nipple. So I just started cleaning my left nipple again twice a day and soaking it with sea salts. It finally healed enough that it didn't hurt at all, but I'm not taking any chances anymore, I'm still cleaning both of my nipples at least daily and making sure that they are okay. If you don't have enough time to take care of a nipple piercing then don't get it because they are a lot of work just because they take such a long time to heal, like three months. But I love having both my nipples pierced. I feel comletely balanced and I think that it looks much better. If anyone is thinking about just piercing one nipple I highly suggest that you get both nipples pierced because it's easier and in most places it's cheaper to get them done both at once. And it really does look better if you have both nipples pierced.
