For some reason, I had been thinking about getting my nips done for about 6 weeks or so. Originally the notion came as I talked to some friends who had theirs done, and the one thing they all said was it HURT!!! Now, because I've been a very frequent visitor to the operating room at the hospital, I'm not a stranger to pain & have built up a decent tolerance.
So, the pain aspect didn't scare me at all, just the possibility of infection. When I was in high school, I had an ear done & it got infected. Before I went on antibiotics, the lobe looked like it had been transplanted from a lizard. Now, I was not all that anxious for a repeat episode, so that took some more thought to make myself comfortable with the piercings.
I finally got enough cash for the double piercings, and went to the studio. I had been in there before to check out the place, and it was very clean, and the workers were knowledgeable about everything. When I walked in, I was taken right away by the helper. First, I had to sign all the releases & wait for the prep to finish. Then, about 5 min after I had walked in, I was taken in the studio. There were two other women in the studio, one in a chair getting a tat on her lower back & another waiting for an appointment. The guy asked me to take off my shirt, but I was a little apprehensive due to multiple scars on my abs from surgery that I am a little... self-conscious about & am not comfortable whipping my shirt off in front of a crowd.
Anyway, I took the shirt off, and sat down. Tom put the gloves on, used a mustache trimmer to trim away some hair that was around the nipple to ensure a clear, sterile field. After that, he sterilized with Betadine all the while explaining everything. I was instructed to let my left arm hang while using my right to grip the chair, if I needed a pain release, but under no circumstances was I to tighten up my pec.
He took the clamp, pulled the nipple out. I was pretty calm and relaxed as he told me to take a breath. Without warning, he shoved the needle in. I could feel the point slicing through the flesh, skirting what felt like muscle & popping out. It was very smooth, and it didn't hurt too much. Hell, I've had more pain having IV's poked in my arms!!!
While he was shoving the needle in, I made eye contact with the girl waiting for the appt through the mirror. When I didn't show any pain at all, her eyes widened. I think she wasn't expecting that from me!!!
As the needle was in my nipple, I looked down, and liked what I saw as Tom inserted the jewelry through. I didn't feel much pain, other than a light stinging as my body reacted to the new hole.
Tom went through the same procedure for the right nipple, and I didn't feel anything different from the previous experience.
As I was pulling my shirt back on, Tom said that he was suprised by my lack of expressing pain, and the other girls nodded their agreement. I told them that I had quite a pain tolerance, but it really didn't hurt all that much for something that was supposed to be the most painful piercing of the body.
In fact, 2 hours later, as the adrenaline high was wearing down, the nipples started throbbing slightly. I had a good laugh with my friends, especially over the fact that the nips hurt more NOW than they did DURING!!!
I'm following the aftercare instructions, and am washing the ring & holes 3x a day. Aside from a slight crusting & dried blood tinging the ring, I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary.
The best parts of the piercing experience has been telling girls about it, and the newfound sensitivity. I would say the nips are about twice as sensitive than they were before. Whenever I tell a girl about the piercings, most of them make a face of pain & grab their boobs. When I tell them it didn't hurt all that much, they look at me like I have a second head!!!
Should you get pierced? Only if you are completely comfortable & understand all the risks. Make sure you follow the aftercare, and enjoy the reactions of non-pierced people as you tell them of your experience.
Will I get anything else pierced? Maybe. I am currently considering having my tongue done, but I am not all that encouraged by post piercing stories detailing drooling, swollen tongue, mumbling & everything else. Right now, I can't get any facial piercing, due to my job, but thats no great loss for me.
