In an ideal world, nipples were not my first choice of what my next mod would be. However, since quitting my job, I was not sure if getting another facial piercing would be a good idea until I knew if whatever job I took next would allow me to have obvious piercings. I decided on my nipples because they could be hid and also because of the simple fact that I did not particularly care for my nipples. They were always odd looking to me and I figured if I decorated them with some rings, I would end up liking them better.

But opportunity ended up presenting itself a bit sooner than originally anticipated. I got an email from the owner of a local piercing shop that I had volunteered to be a guinea pig for if anyone needed someone to learn piercing on. The email said there was an apprentice coming in and if I wanted any basic above the waist piercing it would be $10 a piercing. The $10 price included the jewelry so needless to say I would be getting a hell of a deal.
I felt like a kid at Christmas trying to decide exactly what I wanted done. I went down to the shop on Saturday afternoon while my husband stayed out in the car with the kids. I went in and met the owner, the apprentice, and the head piercer. They asked what I wanted done and I said nipples at least but I had not yet decided on the other piercing. I ended up with another piercing in my right nostril when all was said and done.
They photocopied my id and had me fill out the paperwork. My nostril ended up being done first and since there was other people waiting for piercing, they decided to let the head piercer pierce them first to get them out of there a bit faster. I went outside to tell my husband to come back in an hour since I had already been in there an hour and fifteen minutes and still had my nipple piercing left to do.
Finally it was my turn again to get pierced. I intentionally wore a halter top that day so it would be easy to untie and pull down without being totally exposed from the waist up. My nipples were cleaned off and then measured to insure straight, even markings. I had purple lines everywhere because every time they thought it was straight I would stand differently making them not as straight as they thought they were.
Once everything all looked ok, I was told to lay down. The head piercer did the first nipple since it was inverted a bit and to give the apprentice a chance to watch the exact process. I thought the clamps would have been the worst part but boy was I wrong. My nipples are a bit fatter than most and they are long. It seemed like it took forever for the needle to go all the way through and once it was about halfway through was when I started to really feel it. When it finally poked out the other side, I was crying due to the pain. The 14g horseshoe was put in and the ball screwed on. The piercer asked if I was getting hot and I said yes so she went to get a cold paper towel. She started talking to me and trying to get me a bit more calm since I was not concentrating on my breathing.
While she was distracting me with talk, the apprentice did the other nipple. I am grateful she did not tell me that she was about to do it cause I think I would have backed out or drug it out for awhile-at that point I was honestly not sure I wanted to go through with the other one. Once again about halfway through I started feeling it and just wanted it to be over with at that point. The head piercer helped put the horseshoe in and band-aids were put on my nipples. She then proceeded to tell me funny stories to help take my mind off of what I had just subjected my nipples to. She kept blotting me off with a cold towel and talking to me until she felt I was calm enough to sit up without problems. We then talked about it, where I had to keep reassuring the apprentice I was ok because she was upset that she had hurt me. I was then given a paper for aftercare procedures, which I was already familiar with since I have numerous piercing.
I will not lie-it was the most painful piercing I have had to date-it looks cute enough but it was very painful. Even now I have to keep everything away from my nipples-my breasts are generally sore. I have found keeping a bra on helps cause it keeps pressure on them and keeps them from being rubbed too much by clothing. I don't think healing them will be too much of a problem though once the initial shock of it wears off.
For me, it helped that I went to a shop where I was cared for throughout the whole process and I felt like they truly cared about me as a person, not just as a number walking into their shop. I will continue to go back there for all my future mods and I highly recommend them to anyone-they may charge a bit more on a normal day but as they say, you get charged what they feel they are worth. Do not settle for anything less than the best.
