I don't remember when I decided to pierce my nipple, I had ruled it out for a long time because I didn't want to take my shirt off for anyone. Then I got into piercing and pierced my ears a few times, and eventually gave myself a nasallang. One day I decided it was time to pierce my nipple. This was before the nasallang, though, probably around 2 months prior. I took out my sterile 14g needle and had a 14g barbell that I was going to put in the nipple piercing. I decided to pierce it vertically, rather than horizontally, because less people have that done. I marked my entrance and exit holes and put my sterile forceps on. It was hard to hold that and the needle at the same time.

I put the needle up to my skin and pushed. It barely went in at all; this was going to be a lot harder than I thought. I spent probably 20 minutes trying to get the needle through, then decided that it just wasn't going to go through the other side. I took the needle out and it started gushing blood EVERYWHERE. It dripped down my chest all over my pants (luckily they were black). But this blood wasn't just dripping, it was spurting with each heartbeat! I used some paper towels to try to get it to stop bleeding, but it wouldn't, I soaked paper towel after paper towel with blood...there was so much. It was a horrible experience and I vowed to never try that again. Even though I don't mind the sight of blood, I think it's the fact that I had a large quantity of it spurting out of my chest that was a little freaky.

Fast forward about 2 months. I had done the nasallang and a few more piercings, and was having problems with my nostril piercing. It had bled a lot the night before after catching it on something, so I decided to get a ring for it and take the screw out. I went to the store and got a 16g CBR. Later that day I tried for 2 hours to get the ring in my nostril, but the hole was just too messed up (lots of scarring in the inside, and skin had grown around the screw) so I decided to retire the nostril piercing. I now had a 16g CBR
I had nothing to do with. The thought of piercing my nipple again returned, so I was like, "I'm doing it." But this time I decided that I couldn't give up, no matter what. I had learned from the nasallang piercing that the needle will eventually go through, even if it takes 45 minutes. So, I waited until the weekend for when my room mate would be gone. Again, I marked the entrance and exit points, and took out the sterile needle and clamped my nipple. This time I was going to do it horizontally. I didn't have any ointment to use as lube, so I didn't use anything to help this attempt. All I had was Tattoo Goo, and as I found from using it during my nasallang, it doesn't help lubricate. It just smells nice.

Instead of preparing myself mentally, I just stuck the needle in without thinking about it. I guess it was easier that way. Even though it still took 20 minutes, the needle went all the way through, and didn't bleed! Of course I got the obligatory mid-piercing phone call asking me to go to band practice. I think that gave me a reason to push harder. Pushing the needle through the entrance is always a lot easier than getting it through the other side, which is what was taking me so long. I could see the point of the needle under my skin, trying to get through all the way, but it's just so hard to get it through the other side.

I cleaned it with BandAid Wound Wash, anti bacterial soap, and occasional sea salt soaks. This has been the easiest piercing for me, so far. Since it's not out in the open like my other piercings, it was protected, and I didn't play with it constantly. I have had barely any problems with this piercing at all and the fact that I did it myself made it a lot more personal. I definitely recommend nipple piercings, but done by a professional unless you've had a professional tell you what to do and read up on everything.

Fast forward again, a month after writing that and not submitting it. I have found that the ring is migrating down. I don't know why, since nothing ever happens to it. Maybe the ring's diameter is too small, although it looks like it should be the right size. I know I should change the ring, but the only ones I have are 14g or bigger and I'm not really in the mood to stretch my nipple, I like how it looks with a 16g CBR. If it grows out I'll just do it again, haha.

Once again, DO NOT try this yourself unless you're ready to torture yourself for what seems like hours, and you know what you're doing.
