After much pondering, procrastinating, and nervousness I finally took the plunge to go and get my nipples pierced...

I had been waiting and counting down the days until my eighteenth birthday came around. I was finally going to be able to get pierced and/or tattooed without parental permission!

So I woke up yesterday morning and decided that was the day I was finally going to get it done. I called Renaissance the best and cleanest place in town, and asked for an appointment. I was booked for later that afternoon, and I was definitely counting down the hours and minutes until it was time. I was getting giddy thinking what I was finally going to get done, and my face had a really great perma-smile on it. I had called from the gym earlier that morning to my friend's house, so she could come with me for moral support. Turns out, she thought it was a cool idea and was going to get one done as well. She's very impulsive like that.

So we get there, and I am so nervous! I'm sweating, shaky, and the butterflies in my stomach are going crazy!!! We were led down the hall into the room, and from a glance it looked like it was cleaner than my doctors office. The autoclave was on the counter; everything was in neat organized see-through boxes, all in sterilized bags. Melanie (the piercer) was very nice, and let us know what going to happen, and how everything was going to work. She changed her gloves about 6 or 7 times, and made sure everything was done properly. I was very impressed in how she was doing everything. So it turns out that my friend would rather go first. She got it on her left, with a barbell. I was hoping she did not 'freak out' too much, or I would not have wanted to get it done! Well turns out, she almost passes out from the pain! The piercer grabbed her a juice box and my friend laid there for a while on the bed to calm down and restore herself. After about 5-10 minutes she was okay again and ready to move to the chair beside the bed so, evidently, it was my turn.

The piercer joked about how I was going "double-time" and was skeptical to see if I could handle it. I sat on the table, and it took Melanie about 5 minutes to get everything ready again. First she cleaned my nipple with a q-tip. Then she put the clamp on my nipple (which by the way did not hurt at all) and while doing so talked to me about when she got HERS done. After she let me know she had her nipple pierced, I could not help but stare at her trying to see if I could notice the ring/barbell through her shirt. I'm really hoping she did not notice, or I probably would have made her feel pretty uneasy.

So I did my left first. EASY! All I remember saying was, "Wow, that's it, you're finished!?" All this time I was scaring myself with all the hype on how much it hurt. But it was not over yet! Next, was my right nipple. NOW THIS ONE HURT LIKE A BITCH! I'm not sure why it hurt so badly, but even so it was only 2 seconds of pain, and the only pain seen from me was a grimace on my face. Perhaps I'm a trooper. It was like a walk in the park...

After we left the shop, she wanted to go home and lay down in bed, but I was raring to go show it off. I loved them that much! After I dropped her off, I wanted to go and show a few friends and especially my boyfriend who did not think I would be gutsy enough to go through with it.

I ended up getting both with horizontal silver barbells. My boyfriend thinks they are the greatest thing! I can't wait until they are healed so I can have some fun with those babies. I'm doing the required 2x per day with liquid soap (I'm using Jergens – all the Dial ones were scented) and 2x (sometimes 3x) with one "pebble" of sea salt in a warm water shot glass. It's now day two and I'm proud to say they no longer hurt at all, and I'm able to roll around the barbell, squeeze my nipple, everything – and it does not hurt! (Of course I do not touch them unless I'm washing them though).

I would recommend anyone to do it, as long as you really make sure you clean it properly and get a legit person to do it for you. It does not hurt as much as people say; so don't scare yourself like I did with all the hype.

Happy Piercing! -Sheena
