Being a professional tattooist and body piercer, I am usually the one creating the experience. I suppose I should write about my latest (and greatest) piercing, my vertical nipples.
Having had my nipples pierced horizontally for years, I wanted something different. Something with a less chance of migration. I already had the 'common' piercings: navel, ears, tongue, and sadly my rook and venoms didn't make it. So I decided to treat myself to a pair of vertical nipples for my birthday! I made myself wait two, almost three weeks before getting them. Unfortunately I couldn't wait anymore. Two days before my birthday, I went for it, I got them done. Being one of the piercers at the shop the procedure was to take place at; it was up to me to set everything up. Fine with me, I'd much rather have it that way. I gloved up and laid out all the needed equipment. Duvals, corks, needles, the barbells to be used, etc. Then I waited – for the pizza to arrive – always eat something before having a procedure done.
The anticipation was killing me! And finally after letting my stomach settle for a bit we were in the procedure room. Now, baring your breasts to someone you work with and don't particularly like isn't easy. But I wanted the piercings bad enough, and I knew he was capable of doing the pierce properly. He gloved up and gave me the cold Betadine swab treatment, and my very happy nipples are marked on the top of the nipple and the bottom of the nipple of both. I check the marks and approve. Mind you, there was no freeze spray or anything numbing throughout this procedure. Knowing from my past experience with my horizontals that this is going to hurt, I mentally and physically brace myself. I'm ready for it though, as ready as I ever will be. I find myself gripping the procedure table. It's such a weird feeling, the anticipation. Waiting for the pain. It's good to get on the other end of the needle sometimes. That way you don't loose sight of what your clients are experiencin g. So, the clamp is placed on the right nipple. Not too bad, pain wise, just a bit uncomfortable, and the needle is ready. Usually we will have a client breathe in and out three times before we pierce them. Knowing that I knew that, I got tricked. On breath number two, the needle went in. SHIT!! I can't even describe what it felt like, but it was one hell of a rush. Hot and painful, yet full and satisfying. I don't remember my horizontals feeling quite that extreme! Then again, it had been a long time and you tend to forget things. The 14g barbell was put in place with minimal bleeding. And it looks awesome! Cool, I did it! One down and one to go. I am now questioning myself as to whether I want the other one done. Now the clamp is placed on my left nipple and a new needle is brought forth and readied. Just when I'm about to say "No – Let's wait", the thought was quickly replaced by "MOTHERFUCKER"! Geez, that hurt! Uttered more under my breath, than a scream. It was a good thing there wasn't any clients around at that time. It surprised me m ore than anything, this time I got no count at all. It was as if he knew what I was thinking. The left hurt a lot worse than the right. It always does. That's why the right always gets done first on a pierce such as this. Otherwise I think most people would stop at just the one. The other barbell was put into place, a bit more bleeding on this side, but nothing alarming. I was now the proud owner of matching verts! Awesome! Just think, I had almost chickened out! Happy birthday to me!
Using sea-salt soaks three times a day and following the same aftercare I give my clients, the soreness and occasional bleeding eventually subsided. It was difficult sleeping for a while. It didn't matter which way you'd lay, you still would feel some discomfort. And as we all well know, as soon as you get something done you are bound to hit it on something twice a day at least! Having an excuse to go bra-less was a plus as well. I had fun timing how long I could keep my solution cup stuck to my tits, so I'm weird. Now two months later, the 'turf-war' between my horizontals and verticals is over and everyone's happy! I love the way they feel and look. I also like the fact that they aren't something that is common. The only problem I have now is deciding what to get next.
