I have to say that the thought of nipple rings has always interested me. The first one i actually saw in person was one of my friends who got his while he was in stationed in Hawaii for the Navy. His was ok, but I thought that if I was going to go through all that pain, I was going to have the damn biggest dangling ring i could find hanging from my nipple.

Fast forward about two years. I was trying to convince an ex-girlfriend that we should hang out and do something fun while i was in town over winter break. Naturally i suggest getting our nipples pierced, thinking there is no way she would say yes... To my surprise she thought it would be a great idea so we went to the Asylum in Ames, Iowa. I had been there once before with her to get her tattoo touched up and thought it was a pretty friendly place.

First off, they only charged us $25 bucks each per pair of nipples including jewelry. I thought this was odd so i decided to be very careful and watch everything and make sure there were no corners cut. I think part of the reason it was so cheap is because she is in good with the studio and i don't think they thought i was getting mine done also. That was probably the "hot girl" price but i got it too. They had no 10g or 12g CBRs for me so i had to settle for 14g. That was kind of upsetting but I know I can always just stretch it.

Being the charitable fellow i am, i volunteered my friend to go first. She took of her top and he had her stand straight up with her arms at her side so he could make the marks. As nervous as I was I don't remember as much as i thought i would but i'll describe it as best as I can. He then sat her in the chair and with clean, gloved hands, he applied the clamp and readied the needle. Her face scrunched up a bit but she was tough. He put the ring in and then asked if she was ready for the other nipple. She responded affirmatively and he prepared once again. It was getting closer to my turn so I blanked out again.

She was a trooper through the whole ordeal saying that the left hurt worse than the right but it wasn't that bad. Our piercer prepared another tray for me and donned new gloves. I am a larger guy and when I get nervous I tend to sweat a bit. Quite a bit. Standing there topless getting marked, I could already feel myself getting very hot. By the time I sat down, I was wet and dripping on the chair.

I had heard that the clamp was the worst part of a nipple piercing so I prepared myself for the pinch. Looking back, the people who said that were full of crap. The worst part was the needle that came burning it's way through my left nipple. I couldn't look until he was putting the ring in. It looked so cool having a ring on my chest. After my friend said that the left was worse than the right, i decided to get my right nipple done as well, since i already paid for it.

Don't ever listen to your friends when they tell you how bad something hurts. My right nipple was ready to explode. I swore the needle was wrapped in barbed wire before it was stuck in me. Sweat was dripping, facial contortions were being made, and friends were giggling at me in the corner.

Aftercare instructions were given orally and on a sheet, and we were also given sea salt to soak our bits in. That Iowa winter was an odd feeling when we stepped outside. Very tingly in a dirty way.

Within a few days of salt soaks and gentle cleaning there was no pain and very little tenderness. I hardly even got crusties. Looking at my nipples though, i knew my right nipple was doomed. The placement was absolutely horrid. Rather than being through the base of the nipple, it started about halfway up the nipple and then to the other side. Soon it was migrating and with a tear in my eye, i removed half of my new jewelry.

I still had my left nipple ring, but it looked lonely all by itself so i decided that i would be happier with a bigger nipple ring if i was only going to have one. I popped the bead out and bent the ring so i could get it off my nipple. Using triple antibiotic oinment as a lube, i followed my 14g 1/2 with a 12g 3/4 inch ring. It went in painlessly to my surprise and has not given me any trouble since the stretch. No crusties, no puss, no nothing.

The moral of the story is....

1) Start with the size you want.

2) If it's only $25 be careful.

3) Make sure your piercer is not blindfolded.

4) Nipple rings are cool.
