Where to begin? First and foremost, I started off before the procedure with only my lobes and an ear cartilage piercing; I'm just an average 18 year old college male. Despite my inexperience with the more exotic piercings, I KNEW I had to get my nipple pierced. I always thought that nipple-play for me was one of the most sensitive and arrousing locations for sex.

I walked into the studio (Ancient Art, Blacksburg, Virginia, home of the VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES!!!) and was greeted by a smile from the girl behind the counter (I don't remember her freakin' name... But if you, the girl behind the counter, reads this, you were great!). She did not spare me any information on the procedure or the options, or the risks for that matter, and allowed me to meet the piercer prior to the procedure. I was very impressed with the experience of the studio (piercing and tattooing since 1971), and noticed everything to be spotless and tasteful; no dim lights or deafening music, no odors or stains, and the artists were not drunk, high, or otherwise else influenced by anything other than their creativity (that sounded quite melodic, didn't it?). I went back to the piercing room, took off the mutliple shirts (it was butt ass cold that day), and laid back. Mikey, my piercer, was quite versed in the art as he was tattooed like an elaborate Celtic painting, and pierced like he would set off a metal detector 200 yards away. He was very polite and VERY cool about it, and had a good sense of humor but enough seriousness to make me very comfortable (Mikey, I'm coming back to you, man). He had me sit up so he could mark it, I then checked it, and then he laid me back for the procedure. He talked to me the whole time and had me breathe slow and full to prevent passing out (which was NOT the case at all... read on about how it wasn't painful, yet curiously pleasurable). He clamped my left nipple and inserted the needle quickly but flawlessly (after a matter of just a few breaths), hooked on the captive bead hoop, pulled it back through, and put the ball on in a matter of one minute tops. I was warned that it could bring a guy to his knees, but the pain was oddly very sexual and very nice (I'm not an S & M freak, but it was INCREDIBLE... instant arrousal, gentlemen). He sat me back up, allowed me to check it, instructed me how to clean it, and sent me on my way. Total time: 10 minutes.

The studio, as I said, was immaculate, using the highest technology auto-clave sterilization process. All of the instruments Mikey used were right out of the sterile package; I was allowed to look things over to ensure maximum safety and comfort. My questions prior- and post-procedure were greeted by an unhesitant, unagitated, and highly educated answer. When I walked out of the studio (a bright yellow building off of Main Street if you're in downtown Blacksburg), a gust of frigid wind blew, and my nipples perked up (oh yes, the headlights were on). The piercing ached very little, but was very sensitive to the cold (which was a great feeling, not a bad one).

As far is healing is concerned, it's a cinch. I take a shower in the morning and in the evening, wearing only clean clothes (not wearing sweaters or shirts more than once), and make sure that if I go clubbing or to a rave that I stay away from the spandex (as the piercing needs to "breathe" to heal). First, I allow the hot water in the shower to heat my skin up which allows it to become more elastic. I then wash my hands with the anti-bacterial soap to kill any germs on my fingers. Next, I wash my nipple with the anti-bacterial soap, moving the loop back and forth to ensure proper internal cleaning. I allow it to sit for 15-20 seconds and then rinse off using the same technique (make sure you get all of the soap off so it doesnt eat at your wound). I then pat it dry with a clean towel and apply Bactine with a cotton ball, using the same movement of the hoop to clean properly. The soap I use is Softsoap Anti-bacterial hand soap (or you can use anything that includes TRICLOSAN). I wouldn't, however, suggest anything with an acid as an active ingrediant; that would sting I think. It's healing nicely, and even after three or four days it is an absolute incredible feeling to move (an added love button to the male anatomy, aside from the obvious).

I highly suggest this discreet piercing idea to anyone, male or female, gay or straight, as an excellent addition to your personal decoration and your sexual lifestyle. Good luck. Be safe. Be educated. Be sure. Go get it. Cheers to all!
