I had wanted to get my belly pierced since I was 13, when I saw it on other older girls. I knew that my parents would not like it, so I could not get it done – as I needed their permission back then! I few of my friends got it done at the age of 13, but I am glad that I waited until I was 16, as I knew that I did really want it done. I only actually started thinking about the piercing a couple of days beforehand, but talked to a friend whose sister had gotten hers done at a local beauty studio – called Hot Spot, so I knew it would be ok. I booked the appointment, but they said as I was still only 16, I would need parental permission (this varies depending on the place). So I booked it for an evening and told my mum she had to come along (who luckily thinks that belly piercings are quite pretty). I did not want to tell my dad as I knew he would not like it at all, I personally did not see why I had to seeing as it is my body! But my mum told me I had to, so I did, and he made a bit of a fuss and said he would not give me any lifts or money if I got it done, but he soon came round and I got it done!

But I really wanted it done. I had already paid a deposit of ten pounds, and she took me into the room, where I laid down on a bed. She showed me different types of bars, (I did not want a ring as I do not like them) and I decided on a pink double jewelled bar, which was a bit more expensive but was really pretty. She was not that friendly but I did not care! She sprayed it with some cold numbing spray, and drew with a pen where she was going to pierce it, and asked for my opinion. Then she clamped it with a metal clamp (which was quite cold and pinched a bit!). As I have already said, I am a bit squeamish so could not look- so I can only describe what I felt! I held my mum's hand while she pierced it (wimp!), and it was not pleasant, but then again, not particularly painful, it just felt like something stabbing at me slightly, the bit I did not like was the feeling of my skin giving way as the needle went through it. Then she put some straw thing in the hole, and placed the belly bar in! All Done! She gave me a lecture on how to care for it, and some oil and a bit of paper telling me what to do with it. Altogether it cost me thirty-two pounds, which seems quite pricey, but I do not really know, as I did not really look around. I was scared to move properly all that night, but soon got used to it! It healed quickly, and looks great!
A year on, and I still love it! Every now and then it gets a bit pus-y and sore but I think that might have something to do with 'that time of the month' as I know others who also get this every month at a certain time. I have never once regretted getting it done, I think it is the prettiest piercing you can get, as I know I would not get my nose, eyebrow or anything else done. I have my ears pierced twice, and might think about getting them done more – purely out of boredom as I find it quite fun!
Sometimes I think it looks a bit wonky when I sit up and my belly sticks out, but I think that is just me being picky! I have loads of pretty belly bars – my favorites being ones that drop down. I just love looking at it! My last boyfriend loved it and loved playing with it (even thought you're not meant to play with it!) and I think it makes my belly actually look slimmer! When I take it out its so strange seeing my belly without it, it definitely looks better with it. I sometimes wonder when I will eventually take it out, as I cannot imagine myself as a granny with it in! But for now I'm happy with it and will be for a very long time! I would just advise others to be careful not to catch it on anything, as that can be a bit scary! Now I'm thinking about getting a tattoo, which I know, my dad won't like... but who cares! It's my body, and you only live once! I'd recommend any girl to get their belly button pierced, as it looks so good. I might even think about getting the bottom of my belly pierced as well!
