Ever since I was 11 I had wanted a navel piercing. I had no other body mods, not even my ears, but I knew I wanted this piercing! It started when I found out my best friend's older sister, who was 16, had a belly button piercing. I found it attractive and began the pleading. I first asked my mom, and guess what the answer was. "No."

So fast forward a couple months, I had just turned 12. I got up the courage to ask my dad, and, to my surprise, it was a yes! From that moment on I knew to ask my dad for whatever I wanted.

My sister had a friend whose dad (who works in the body art biz) pierced her navel. I asked her, and she told her dad about it. My parents phoned him, and made an appointment in August.

Okay, so over the next few days I researched about this piercing on the net. A lot of sites discouraged it, as they said it was a surface piercing and prone to infection and rejection. I still wanted it! It was August 5th, 2004, and my appointment was the next day! I was so excited! I looked around eBay for a cute belly button ring, and found one and set a bid... I'm rambling.

The next morning I woke up extra early out of excitement. My appointment was at 3 PM, and it was 8 AM. Gah! So long to wait! So anyway, I had some coffee something to eat, and stared at that clock for hours! 3 PM rolls around, and I get in the backseat of my parents' car with my sister. We pull out of the driveway, and I get that shot of adrenaline. My mom gave me an Advil so that I could deal with the pain and swelling afterwards.

In about 3 minutes, we arrive at my piercers' house. As my family and I are walking up to the door, I get another shot of adrenaline. The piercer greets us and opens the door. We walk into a clean little room with photos of body art adorning the walls. I know that now there is no backing down. The piercer tells me his name, snaps some rubber gloves on his hands, and cleans the upper rim of my navel with iodine solution. He marks it up and asks me to sit in The Chair. Another shot of adrenaline.

So my sister and her friend each take one of my hands as The Chair is reclined. I am sooo nervous but excited at this point. He puts the clamp on my navel and loops an elastic around the handles of it tightly. Surprisingly, unlike many other people say, this caused no pain or discomfort. I hear him say "Okay, here comes the needle." which is better than "1, 2, 3." because I hate that tension.

I squeeze my sister and her friend's hand. I wanted to watch the needle go in, so I arched my neck and watched. The needle took one second to go through, and there was only a slight sharp pain as it broke my skin. Duncan put a CBR in it, which didn't hurt going in or coming out the other side of the hole. He went through all the aftercare instructions which I knew by heart from the sites I was on. I handed him the $30 I had been saving for weeks, and my parents left a generous tip and we left.

I babied my piercing for the next three months. I washed it twice a day with antibacterial Softsoap and Tougra ointment that Duncan provided. In a couple weeks, that cute reverse belly ring arrived, along with an orange acrylic UV navel ring as a freebie. After a month, I returned to Duncan as instructed, and brought that orange banana barbell. He checked my piercing, and said it was healing a lot faster than most of his clients' piercings did. After I was checked up, I asked if he could possibly put in the acrylic belly button ring I brought along. He said "Sure." and I handed it to him. He sterilized it in a solution and put it in for me. Finally that annoying CBR was gone!

It is now August 17th, 2006 and I have had my navel piercing for over two years. I am happy with it and get tons of compliments. If you want it done, get it done by a professional because I've had a lot of friends do it themselves and they all got big infections and had to take the ring out! I am now addicted to piercings and I am getting my lower lip pierced very soon! I'll have another story up as soon as possible. Thanks for reading and happy piercing!
