Well I'm thirteen at the moment, nearly fourteen but as I've wanted a belly button piercing since I was in year 7 (10 years old) I wanted one now not after my next birthday. My mum wasn't keen on taking me until I was a bit older so I cut a deal with my sister who ended up taking me. I started to save the £35 it would cost me and when I'd saved enough we booked an appointment. Linda the women who would pierce me told me I'd have to wait until the following Thursday to have it done as she was all booked up on the Saturday and the belly bar needed to be sterilized half an hour before I'd have it done. I noticed while we were booking the appointment that the studio looked very professional and clean and was probably the best place in my town to get it done. As I'd only ever had my ears pierced twice and my nose pierced this was major to me. All my three other body modifications had been done using a gun so I had no idea what having a needle shoved through my stomach was going to be like. I just kept telling myself that if this was that bad people wouldn't be getting it done still.

So I waited a few extra days and went down after school with my sister. My sister had had hers done at thirteen as well and four years on it looked pretty good. So I put my doubts to the back of my mind and walked in to pay. As we were ten minutes early we sat in the waiting area as my sister filled some forms out. When Linda had prepared the room she called us in. My nerves had started to show by then and my hands were sweating like crazy as was my face. I was so nervous I didn't know what to do so I was often laughing for no reason much to my embarrassment. Linda got all her equipment out and asked me to roll my school shirt up and stand straight against a wall so she could evenly mark where she would pierce me. She put two small purple dots on my stomach and asked my sister if they looked even. When she'd finished doing that she asked me to lie down on a chair similar to a doctor's chair. I got more and more nervous at this point so Linda offered me a glass of water to calm me down, whilst I drank it she told me I had nothing to worry about and showed me hers which she'd had done at the same studio. This put my mind to rest so I lied back down and stared at the ceiling. She told me she was going to clamp it and it started to hurt slightly, it was like a long pinch. She then got out a cooling spray and sprayed around my belly button and asked if it had numbed it. I told her it had and she then pushed the needle through, she told me she'd gotten the needle through and all that needed to be done was to put the jewelry in, which I'd already picked out a few days before. It was a titanium gold plated bar with two light blue gems - one on the top ball and the other on the bottom ball. She threaded it through the needle and pulled it out, screwed the top of the ball on and stuck a small piece of padding over the belly bar to prevent it from catching on my shirt.

When I stood up she gave me a mirror to look at it, by then it had started to bleed very badly, Linda explained that your either a bleeder or your not and the fact I'd attempted to pierce it myself once before didn't help as she'd had to push the needle through some keloid scarring. She cleaned all the blood up and gave me instructions on how to clean it. I've only had it for one full day so far but I've cleaned it twice a day with warm salt water like she told me and its already looking impressive. I'll admit that once I had it done it didn't hurt at all but now a day later I'm starting to feel the tenderness. I've been told that this only lasts a few days and as long as I clean my hands before touching it and don't fiddle with it to much and clean it on a regular basis it should heal up in no time. Linda told me to keep the bar in for around three months just to make sure it won't reject or infect, once the three months is over I'll be buying a 6mm bar because the 10mm bar she pierced it with was to allow for swelling and she told me that as my belly button is quite small I may want to go for a smaller one once I can change it. I'm glad I got it done and didn't chicken out because I've wanted it for so long that I no longer have to stare at my sisters in awe. I suggest to any body who is thinking of having one done just go for it! If you book into a professional studio and it's all clean etc. Then you shouldn't hold back because they look so cute especially in a bikini on the beach! If you're worried in any way just think of how good it's going to look! Well I hope this helps any one who is thinking about having it done!
