The first time I asked my mom if I could get my belly button pierced was when I was in 5th grade, and I was 11. She said I could get it done when I was 15, and I told her I wouldn't forget!!

Now fast forward 4 years...I started to bring it up again this summer, and she started to back out and say no, but I got her to say yes after showing her some info and researching tons!! So we planned to go get it done next Tuesday (July 18).

Tuesday finally came and I was at my friend's house, because it was her birthday. My mom came and picked us up after work, and we were off to Threshold. My mom kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to do it, and she even stopped at Quik Trip and said she had to go to the bathroom, but she really just wanted me to think about it.

We got to Threshold, and I started to get more and more nervous, but I was so excited too!! This was my first "real" piercing besides the 2 holes in each ear that I had gotten done at the mall with a gun. It smelled and looked very clean. We filled out all the forms and the lady behind the counter made copies of our IDs and gave me an aftercare sheet. My mom was gonna use her credit card to pay, but then my dad (who didn't want me to get it done) would see it on the bill, so I ran out to the car to get some more cash (hahaha). We paid the $50, and the piercer pulled out some curved barbells for me to choose from, and I went straight for the pink jeweled one.

The piercer took me, my friend, and my mom back to the piercing room. My mom asked the lady behind the counter, "Have you had people faint? Because she might!" So she went and got me a popsicle in case I started to feel queasy. He put on gloves and told me to stand against the wall so he could mark where the piercing would be. He dipped a toothpick in the purple ink and made the line. He was not satisfied with it so he remarked it. I think I was thinking about the needle being shoved through my stomach a little too much and I started to feel a little dizzy and queasy. I laid down on the piercing chair and ate the popsicle. After a minute or two, I felt better, so I said I was ready. He marked it a few more times and finally we were all happy with the mark. I laid down on the chair again, taking a minute to make sure I wasn't going to pass out. I said I was ready and I closed my eyes and tried to think about something besides a huge needle being shoved through my skin. He said take a deep breath, and he pierced me as I let it out. I'm not gonna lie, it did hurt. You think you're gonna cry for like 2 seconds, then it's over. It felt like a hard pinch, it didn't hurt that bad at all. The lady from the front came to check on me and brought me another popsicle. I laid there for a little bit to make sure I wasn't gonna just drop again when I got up. I got up from the chair and looked in the mirror. I LOVED it!! I thanked him and we almost left without tipping him, but my mom remembered and I went and gave him a 10. We went to Walgreens next door and got Dial soap and q-tips to clean it with twice a day.

My mom said she watched and said it was gross (hahaha). My friend was too scared to watch and looked out the door when he was doing it. Surprisingly, it didn't hurt at all that night and was just a little sore after I ran the next morning. I love it so much and would do it all over again if I had to. I would definitely recommend Threshold, because they were very clean and friendly and took their time with me. Don't be scared of the needle, because I am such a wuss when it comes to needles, and I almost pass out when I get a shot at the doctor. Just close your eyes and keep something running through your mind. If you want it then do it!! Do lots of research and print things out for your parents to read if you're having trouble convincing them. BME helped me a lot to know what to expect. Know your stuff about the piercing you want!! Do it!! It's not bad at all and you will love it!!
