Doesn't every teenage girl want a navel piercing? I sure did. The story of my navel piercing begins last September. Each day, my parents would give me five bucks for lunch money. Obviously, I didn't need that much. So each day I would save up a few quarters, or a loony (for all you non-Canadians, that's a one dollar coin). The reason for saving up my loose change? I knew if I saved up the money on my own, my parents wouldn't be able to say no if I asked them to get my navel pierced.

I had received honors with an average of 90% and I won the Most Valuable medal for cheerleading, so when we got home from award's night at my school, I knew my parents would be glowing with pride. Rather then waiting for the good mood to subside, I sprung them with my request for my piercing.
Months earlier, I had prepared a little speech explaining the procedure of a navel piercing, the aftercare, and all the pros and cons. I knew they would be impressed with all my research.
I asked my parents to sit on the couch because I had something I wanted to talk to them about. After we were all settled, I read my speech and told them about my savings. They nearly fainted when I told them I had saved up almost 400 bucks. That was enough for them, they couldn't say no after how hard I worked to get their permission. So it was settled, the next Thursday when both my parents were off work, they would take me to get pierced. I love my parents.
Thursday:
I was on cloud nine all day, awaiting my jewelled navel. My friend came over so she could come with me to get pierced. She said she wanted to be there to comfort me, but I'm pretty sure she just wanted to watch the needle jab me in my belly. Haha. So it finally was time to leave, and boy was I excited!
The Shop:
We arrived at Skin Deep and I couldn't have been more happy. I wasn't unfamiliar with the shop, I had my nose pierced there last November. It was perfectly clean and professional in there. I don't think I would trust any other shop in my area. As we walked in we were greeted by my piercer. Whom my friend and I both agreed was really cute! After I decided I just wanted a plain titanium barbell, he said he was ready when I was, so I shuffled to the room in the back, because, I was way more than ready!
The Procedure:
He told me to stand in front of him with my hands by my sides so he could mark where the piercing was going to be. After that, he told me to hop up on the dentist-type chair. My mom was taking pictures of the whole thing. I'll be sending them to BME after I scan them. He clamped the skin, and had the needle lined up to my skin. This is where I started to freak out. I started saying things like "Oh man! I can't do this! Ahh I'm so scared! Is it gonna hurt?!" But my piercer was such a sweetie trying to calm my down. He told me to hold on to the arms of the chair, and it would all be over soon. Just as he was saying that, I felt the needle slide through my skin. This was probably the most strange feeling in the world. It felt nothing like any of my other piercings. It felt like it was taking forever! I could feel it go through each layer of skin. It didn't hurt, but I did feel a pinch when it came out the last layer of skin. He told me he had to put the barbell in and then we would be all done! I could feel that too, but it didn't hurt. He sprayed me with some peppermint smelling stuff, and I hopped out of the chair, paid him, and was on my way out the door, feeling quite empowered.
One week later:
I've had my awesome navel piercing for one whole week now. It hasn't given me any problems at all yet except for a little redness around the exit and entry holes. I do sea salt soaks twice a day and I clean it with non-scented antibacterial soap in the shower. It's not crusting or sore or anything.
If you're in the Bridgewater area I highly recommend Skin Deep. They're amazingly professional and very clean. I plan on getting my tenth piercing there next month, my tragus, but that's another story.
Thanks BME, I love you!
