I've been waiting for about 4 years to get my belly button pierced. I always saw the dangly and pretty navel jewelry and I really wanted to wear that, but I wasn't ready and I didn't want it done terribly badly until the past year when I couldn't stop thinking about it. In some ways it was hard to get it done and in some ways it was easy. It was hard because since I live in Wisconsin, you have to be 16 to get it done even with the permission of a parent!! I hated that. It was easy because my mom was all for it and thought it was so cute and so she wanted me to get it done.

When me, my mom, and my brother went to Iowa on vacation we looked up some places and they would do it, but they said I either needed my birth certificate or my school I.D. and I didn't bring that on vacation. I was so mad. But then when I got home I went on the internet and found a place in Illinois that would do it with out a birth certificate or I.D. they just had to see my mom's I.D!!! That was awesome.

It took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there and my mom couldn't find it so that added about another 10 minutes (not to mention my mom getting mad, ha ha)! When we got there and I walked in I felt like I was going to throw up. After I explained what I wanted pierced he asked if I wanted a barbell or a hoop. I choose a barbell. Then he brought out 3 boxes of about 30 different barbells. I choose a baby blue diamond one (which is also my birthstone)!! (All the other ones looked like different colored beads and were very ugly.) Then we paid. I had to pay for this navel piercing with my own money. If you wanted the hoop it was about 20 dollars and if you wanted a barbell it was 40 dollars. After that my stomach was still going crazy so I asked the man where his bathroom was. When I went in nothing happened but I stayed in there for about 2 minutes just in case. When I walked out he was already in this small room sterilizing his equipment.

My mom had to sit in the car because she didn't want to see me in pain (which there wasn't that much of). I walked in the room and he told me to stand on this stool next to the bed type thing that looked like a chair at the doctors or dentist. Then he told me to lift up my shirt and he stared at my belly button to make sure the dot was even. When he marked the dot he said "Yea, that's about what I wanted" and I thought it looked good too. Then he told me to lie down and he told me just to breath. Then he took out this tool that looked like pliers and clamped it down on the mark on my navel. Everyone says this hurts the most but it didn't. Then he said he's going to count to three and then pierce it. I felt the needle slid through my skin but it's not as bad as I'm making it sound. The man was so nice he kept asking me how I was doing and other questions. This also comforted me a lot more too. The needle was the most painful part but it wasn't bad at all!! It went by really fast. Then he slid the barbell in and screwed the silver ball on and it was done.

The jewelry sliding through was also a little painful but I thought it was going to be a lot worse. So far it is healing very well. There is a little red bump around the piercing, but I think it is normal during the healing process. There is hardly any puss and barely any stinging. The only time it stings is when I clean it. The guy who pierced me said to use Dial soap and this is the only time it stings. I am extremely happy with my brand new belly button piercing and I can't wait to take this one out and put in a dangly one. They are so pretty. I am not regretting one part of it.

If anyone out there wants to have it done or is thinking about having it done, I say go for it. It was totally worth it. Being nervous is normal, but when I got in the room and sat down the nerves went away and I felt normal. If anyone has any questions about getting you belly button pierced you can e-mail me because I know almost everything getting it pierced.
