When I was growing up I had always wanted to get my belly button pierced but I had very strict parents. My mom would always tell me I had to wait till I was 16 before I could ever get any piercing or tattoos. At the age of 14 all my friends had just started getting their navels pierced. It was really cool at the time and everyone was doing it and always showing theirs off. I constantly asked my mom if I could get mine done, and she refused. She said I was way to young to get mine done. Months went by and all I did was beg to get it done and it was still a no and there was nothing I could do to change her mind.

One day, a year later I was with a few friends of mine and we were bored, so my one friend decided to pierce my other friend's web. She did a good job, so she asked me if I would let her pierce my navel. It took me a while to think about it because even though she had another sterile tool to use and did a great job piercing the web, she wasn't a professional. Eventually they talked me into it and promised me it wouldn't hurt. My one friend held me down and the other started piercing. Fifteen minutes of sheer pain went by slowly and she had only gotten half way through. It was bleeding quite a bit after she hit the fifth layer. It turns out she was pushing in towards my stomach and not out the other side and she wasn't pushing the needle in hard enough and she stopped every time I flinched. Thankfully I finally told her to just pull it out, and I'd go get it done professionally. A few days later I started noticing my belly button was red, really sore and it was pussing a little bit, it was infected. I couldn't tell my mom about it so I cleaned it daily and let it heal.

A month later after it was healed fully I asked my mom again if I could get it done, I'd even pay for it with my birthday money. She finally agreed to let me get it done, as long as I didn't walk around in belly shirts everyday. We called and booked the appointment immediately at Stab By Desire where I had gotten many good recommendations. My appointment was the next day at four. My friend who had attempted to pierce it a month before came with me and my mom. When we got to her house I met my piercer Tammy. I was kind of nervous and worried about the sterilization. Her house was very clean there wasn't any dirt to be found, the only thing that worried me, was the two iguanas that she let rome around her house. But she assured me it was all very clean. We signed the papers and she brought me into the piercing room. My mom stood outside because she couldn't bare to watch. Tammy showed me her certificates and awards and re-assured me that she knew what she was doing. She washed her hands twice, put on the gloves, grabbed a brand new needle in its package, and put this stuff on my skin to clean it. At this time my heart was racing and I was incredibly nervous. We shared some small talk while she was preparing the tools. I told her about the incident a month before, she found it very amusing. She pulled out an amazing assortment of cool barbells and hoops. I chose a barbell with my birthstone. After our talk I started to calm down. As soon as I saw the needle I closed my eyes. Two seconds later she was finished and I didn't feel a thing compared to the pain I felt the last time. She disposed of the needle in a box that was labeled Bio-hazard. My piercing came to $60. And I left a happy client.

It has been two years since I got my navel pierced. I kept it clean with soap and water. I have never once been infected and I've never had any problems with it. I was so happy with the turnout that I have several other piercings, and I actually let that same friend pierce my web for me.

If you want something get it done, its not as bad as it looks. But try to get it done professionally, where they are clean, qualified and great at their jobs. Make sure to be fully comfortable with your piercing parlor, your piercer, and with the piercing you are going to get. And finally piercings get addicting, but in a good way. Have fun with them.
