My name is Jilly and I am 13 years old. I wanted to get my belly button pierced since I was 10. I always thought belly jewelry was adorable. I liked the dangly kind a lot. I asked my mom to take me to get it pierced but she always said no. My parents are very strict and wouldn't even let me get my ears pierced. I go to a catholic school and jewelry isn't allowed.

I tried to go to every tattoo shop where I live but not one of them would pierce me without my mothers consent. By the time I was 13, I knew I had to have this piercing. I would do anything to get it. My sister Jessica is 28 and I told her about wanting to get my belly pierced. My sister is a lot cooler than my parents and she said she would take me. I was excited and we went.

There was a woman at the counter who asked us what we wanted. My sister looks older than her age, but not old enough to be my parent. I almost expected the women to turn us away, but she seen our last names matched and gave me papers to fill out. After I filled out the paperwork the women copied our Ids. I was worried that she would look at our ages and know Jessica was not my mom, but she didn't.

The women told me the wait would be 20 minutes. There were two people in front of me. Someone was getting an eyebrow pierced and someone was getting a nose pierced. I had to wait about 25 minutes, but it was finally my turn.

My sister didn't want to come back with me. I had to go in the back room alone and I was nervous. The piercer was a female, her name was Carole. She was really nice to me. I heard a lot of people say that if you are young then they aren't as kind to you, but that wasn't the case.

Carole told me everything she was going to do. She had me raise my shirt up to mark me. She took a purple pen and made two dots on my belly. One was where the jewelry would come out and one was where it would go in. I was disappointed that I had to get it done with a plain belly barbell. I wanted a dangly barbell, but Carole told me I would have to wait till it was healed to put one of those in.

When the dots were drawn and I was satisfied with the placement, I laid down on a table. The table looked like one in a doctor's office. Carole had a tray set up and she changed her gloves. She pulled out a needle and I started to get real nervous. Carole saw how nervous I was and told me to relax that it barely hurt.

I tried to relax, but it was hard. Carole put the needle near the top hole and told me to take a deep breath on 3. She counted to 3 and I breathed in and she pushed the needle in me. The needle slid right in my skin and only took a few seconds. I imagined a lot of pain like stepping on a needle. The pain was minimal. It felt like someone pinched me then let go. After the needle was in the pain stopped. Carole slides the barbell on the end of the needle and slides it in quickly. I did not feel the barbell go in. I was pierced at a 14 gauge.

After the ball was on I looked in the mirror and loved my piercing. It was very straight and gorgeous. When I showed my sister she loved it to. My parents never found out and I have had it 6 months. I still have the original barbell in. I was told to wait 9 months to change it. I plan to do that. It was sore for the first week but soon I barely felt it. I hit it a few times at school with my books but now I am very careful. Carole told me about rejection and I wanted to keep my belly ring forever.

After I got it done someone asked me if the clamp hurt. I didn't know about clamps because Carole didn't use one. It looks very straight to me so I guess that isn't a problem.

It is healing nicely. I use antibacterial soap on it and it doesn't crust anymore. Some people say sea salt soaks help but I never used it and never had any problems. Around the holes are not red or anything anymore. Soon I will have my dangly and I am happy.

This is a pain free piercing and looks good on everyone, especially girls. I suggest it to everyone. Don't let anything scare you, it is easy to care for and get done.
