My name is Mariah and i've been wanting my navel pierced for about a year. My mom would never let me because she didn't want me to have holes in me besides my ears. I told her that it wasn't fair that I couldn't get my navel pierced because she had hers done. So I asked my mom when I was 13 if I could get it done for my 14th birthday. She said yes. My birthday is in November but she took me in May so I could have it for summer.

I was looking around for places and I found one but they wouldn't pierce navels under 16 years of age. So me and my mom drove down the road thinking we could find some place else. We came upon a little shop called Tattoo Club while we were driving down the road. The outside didn't look very clean but we stopped to look anyway. We went inside and it was very clean and looked very sterilized. Everything was packaged in individual packages so we knew it was clean. A girl would be doing my piercing and I felt more comfortable with that. I waited and filled out forms. She took me back into the room and I was so nervous! Anyway so she was cleaning my navel and was putting Iodine on it and then I laid down with the clamp on my navel. It was really tight but it made the pain less painful because it was so tight.

My mom went in the room with me so she knew everything was sterile and she could hold my hand. I was squishing my moms hand and I was like ok are you going to pierce me or what? She was like I just have to put the jewelry through. I barely felt the needle, she slid it through so fast I didn't even notice until I looked down and saw a huge needle in my stomach! It looks so cute and I kept staring at it. She said not to take it out for about 6 months and gave me aftercare instructions and I paid the $42.39.

I started to feel really sick and about to puke. She told me that when you get body piercings or tattoos you should drink soda so you have sugar in your system. The guy at the studio gave me hawaiian punch and it was really good but it helped. So I tried it with my next piercing and it helped a lot so don't go on an empty stomach!

About a month later after I got it pierced, I noticed it was really weird looking and had a lot of pus inside the top hole. My mom told me that her navel did that to while it was healing so I figured it was ok. It was infected but I cleaned it extra long and it cleared up in about a week.

About three months later I wanted to change it so bad so I

did...it was pretty much healed so it was ok and now I love it! I encourage anyone who wants this piercing to get it! I later realized that it was a little bit crooked. But i'm pretty much over it.

I live with my grandparents so I had to hide it from them, but they

found out and they were mad. But whatever its my body! My dad thinks its weird but he doesn't really care.

I like to have fun with it and put different kinds of jewelry in it. I like to use a spiral industrial barbell and put it through my standard and inverse navel(bottom of navel). I suggest that if anyone gets a navel piercing that you have fun with it and not do it to be cool. Do it because you want to and it will make you happy. It's also fun if you have a boyfriend/mate because its kind of like a toy for them. My boyfriend likes to play with it a lot.

I cant wait for my next piercing which will hopefully be my nose or tongue if my mom lets me! If anyone has questions or comments you can e-mail me!

Also, if you are thinking about getting a navel piercing, make sure you know where your going and everything is clean. I suggest barbells but thats just me I guess. I will try to take pictures of both of my navel piercings so everyone can see.

Enjoy your body and do what you want with it, just be smart and safe and I wouldn't recommend piercing your navel by yourself because it's hard to see and my friends have done some of their own and they didn't turn out pretty. They ended up taking them out due to infection and/or rejection.

Happy Piercing!!! :)
