I was dying to get my navel piercing since I was 13 and of course it did not work when u have strict parents whose favorite words were no, no and no. I tried piercing it myself but that was the lamest idea that I have ever had because it hurt so bad. So when my brother started to get all of his piercing done without my parents consent, I took this opportunity as the green light to get my navel done. Of course, this time I went to a professional piercer to get it done. I didn't tell my parents and it took a whole lot of persuasion to get my boyfriend to agree to it but he finally agreed and brought me to the tattoo parlor to get it done. I was really excited when my boyfriend said yes but in the rush of the moment I didn't get the tattoo parlor's name or the piercer's name either, which was really silly of me!!!

My boyfriend, Dev, actually did the talking and after looking through the numerous photo albums of other previous people who had their piercing done there, he inquired bout the cost of getting the piercing done. Mean while I went to take a look at the tattoo parlor from back to front as to be sure of the sanity of the shop. After being completely satisfied with the cleanliness of the shop I purchased a barbell at the parlor. The piercing plus the jeweled barbell cost RM60 ($20) and I chose a shiny white jeweled barbell. It was surgical steel. I had never experience any form of discomfort and allergies from my previous piercing so I got a surgical steel barbell. It's really important to know the material the barbell was made of as some people do have allergies towards a certain type of material. I was led into another room and was asked to tuck my tee shirt into the bottom of my bra. The piercer showed me the needle and the barbell in tiny different packages.

The piercer then cleaned my navel thoroughly with an antiseptic solution and then later marked my navel with a purple felt tip pen. After checking in the mirror, I gave a yes to the piercer and he asked me to lie down on a reclined chair. He then sprayed a numbing solution on my navel and around it. He clamped the skin above the navel and asked me to draw a large breath and then let go. I looked down and actually saw the needle pierced through the top part of my navel, and it dint hurt one bit. I dropped my head back and let him put in the jewelry and screw the ball on.

The whole procedure took less then 8 minutes and he asked me to check out the piercing in the mirror, and boy was I happy. No, I was ecstatic! While looking at the mirror, though, I did feel a little faint, probably from excitement. But that didn't put me off from being happy! I walked out the parlor with a million dollar smile much to the amazement of Dev.

The aftercare was the usual basics that are to use a saline soak. Never ever use alcohol solutions to clean the piercing. The best way to clean the piercing is a hot water rinse in the shower. Don't put ointments that are not prescribed by the physician or piercer. Antibiotic creams will make the body reject the piercing. Cell food can cause an ugly scar round the hole of

the piercing when it rejects and the most important thing is to never ever touch your piercing all the time and make sure your hands are clean when you do touch it. This is to avoid infection and also please do not allow your friend to touch your piercing no matter how much they beg you, unless you want your navel to have infections and heal slowly. Don't remove the 'crusties' that form around the ball with your fingernail. It hurts a lot. Instead, clean it in the shower and use water to wash it away.

Well, 3 months later, my piercing is doing fine. Still a bit left to heal and I can't help showing my baby off! Of course my mum knows that I had a pierced navel now. You can't hide it when you wear super low jeans and a midriff baring tee, right? But I wonder what my dad will say when he sees it. It's slightly infected but I'm taking good care of my baby. She is going to be just fine. They said I could change my barbell when the piercing is three months old. I have been a major collector of colorful barbells ever since the piercing was done, but I haven't used one of them yet. Well u knows I was a little too excited. I can't wait to change it this weekend. It will be exactly 3 months then. Better to be safe then sorry. Since the piercing doesn't hurt I'm planning to get either my brow or tongue pierced soon. I'm just waiting for my degree to begin.

To those who want to do some kind of piercing but you don't know which part to pierce, go for a navel piercing. I suggest go ahead and don't think too much about it. You won't have any regrets, just pure happiness and a whole lot of fun doing it!
