my parents have always been tight when it comes to piercing and until I was 17 I had only been able to get my ears pierced,6 lobe, 6 cartilage, a conch and a tragus. All my friends had got their navels pierced in middle school when the huge craze was about and I hadn't been allowed so I decided that at 17 it was about time I was allowed to get a body piercing so after nagging my parents for ages I was finally allowed....
At A Glance Author ash Contact flyawayflutterbye@hotmail.com When Six months ago Location newcastle, england I decided to get my navel piercing at a shop in Newcastle as it looked clean and professional. I had my mother all prepared to answer the phone to verify that I was allowed as the age at the piercers was 18 for anything other than ears.
as I climbed the stairs I began to feel nervous as I had never had anything done by this piercer before, I'm fine with pain and needles have never bothered me it was the fact I had never met the piercer.
I found that there was no need to be nervous as he turned out to be really friendly and was covered in piercings himself, I swear he must just sit there and pierce himself if he gets bored...
I filled in the forms and was surprised that the piercer didn't ask fro ID or verification even though I had stated that I was only 17 (I think he may have heard me on the phone to my mam outside the window asking her to stay by the phone...)
After what seemed like an eternity it was my turn and I was asked to stand up whilst he marked my stomach and check with me that it was ok, I wasn't happy with the first placement and neither was my piercer as it was kind of wonky so after another go we were both happy and ready to go...
I chose my bar from a selection of colours, I settled on a clear jewel as it was a neutral and found out it was £2 cheaper!
I have heard from my friends that the clamps are the most painful part but I didn't even feel any discomfort. I was offered numbing spray but refused as I didn't like the thought of it going into a fresh wound. He showed me the needle in the packet to show it was new and sterile and slid it effortlessly through my navel. The only discomfort I felt was when the jewellery was put in it felt like it was being tugged but that's it!
I was given aftercare spray and a leaflet and my belly was bandaged up as I bled abit after the jewellery had been put in, that happened with my tragus and conch too so I'm now thinking that I may have thin blood...
I had absolutely no problems healing my piercing it ached for a while after as my boyfriend managed to hit me in it when hugging me but after that it was totally fine. I got a bit addicted to the cleaning spray I was given as I was very paranoid and I made my own from diluted tea tree oil which is fantastic. I would recommend a navel piercing to anyone as a really simple easy piercing!
the only problem that ever happened with it was my own fault and not to do with the healing, I bought a stupid dangly cherry belly bar from Argos (DO NOT BUY BELLY BARS FROM THERE THEY DO NOT SCREW ON TIGHT ENOUGH!!!!) and I looked down when I was on the train and it was not there....so I ended up having to rush to the piercers again to have another put it before it closed up, not fun in 2 hours it had managed to heal the bottom hole a bit so it was a bloody mess trying to insert the bar again but luckily I didn't need to have it repierced with a needle...so I am now very very paranoid about any belly bar but the one I got pierced with so I carry around a spare in my purse which has come in useful when one of my friends lost hers too!
Now I'm thinking about getting a horizontal surface navel piercing and maybe 2 standard navel piercings to create a triangle with the horizontal bar below as I saw a girl at Download festival at the weekend with the 3 navel triangle and thought it looked great.
If anyone lives in the north east of England near Newcastle I would definitely recommend Newcastle jewellers as I received excellent treatment and the prices are very reasonable I think me payed £18 for mine.
Overall I absolutely love my navel piercing it doesn't look complete when I take the bar out to clean; it was definitely worth the wait!!
