So everyone wants what everyone else has, right? Well, I know I did, anyways. One of my best friends got her belly button (or navel) pierced a few weeks before Halloween. I had been asking my parents for a few years to get my cartilage pierced, but I had always gotten the "we'll have to think about it", or the "we'll see". Since my dad had always been the more lenient one, I asked him over and over. He said that I could possibly get it for my thirteenth birthday, which was in about a month. When the time came around to my special day, I got my presents, and in my card, my mom/dad wrote about thinking of the belly button piercing. I ended up showing my responsibility as much as i could (since i already had 3 piercings in each ear, with NO infections). I asked for the piercing once more, suggesting it as an early Christmas present. My parents had a few discussions and finally agreed to it. I was so excited that I swear I could have peed my pants.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When Six months ago Artist road Studio paul's piercings Location surrey, BC, Canada I had told all my friends the good news, including a few who had already gotten their belly buttons pierced. I asked around if anyone knew of good places, and Paul's Piercings (the Langley and Surrey locations) came up a lot in conversation. One of my friend's mom is even a nurse, and she had gone there with her mom, and "the nurse" was very pleased with the cleanliness of the studio. This friend of mine had already gotten her nose and navel pierced at Paul's, and had never gotten an infection. I told my parents all of this information, and they agreed that it sounded like an awesome place. My dad phoned in to Paul's, and asked to book and appointment. The lady talking to him told him that we didn't need one, and that it was just drop in whenever we wanted. That's exactly what we did the next week.
On December third, my dad said he would take me to get the piercing. He stopped on the way to a music store, saying he needed guitar strings. We were in the store for about half an hour when I asked him what we were really doing. He said, "I really do need the strings, but I just wanted to give you some extra time to think about the piercing," and he just smiled. I told him that I was ready and had no second thoughts. He purchased the strings and off we went.
We walked into the studio, and my dad asked the lady if she had any time to do a belly button piercing. She said yes, and gave us the forms to sign, and I was busy choosing jewelry. Just a hint to anyone reading this, choose your jewelry wisely, since you're stuck with it for six months! I picked the barbell I liked best, my dad paid, and the lady said that the jewelry was in some cleaning machine and that it would take about 5-10 minutes. I waited patiently and we finally heard a loud POP. It startled me, but it was just the noise of the machine timer going off. She walked back into the piercing room and cleaned her hands VERY thoroughly. I was very impressed myself by the sanitation, and I could see that my dad was too.
The lady asked me to stand up and tuck my shirt into my bra. I did so. She then took out a purple pen, and put two dots on my stomach where the piercing would go. She told me to take a look in the mirror, and I did so, and I was extremely pleased with how straight and perfect it was. She then told me to lie down on the table. As I did so, she showed me and my dad the needles in the package. I told her that they looked fine to me, and my dad also approved. I was lying down, looking at a map on the wall. I was so distracted by it that I could barely tell when she had put the needle through! All it felt like was a tiny little burning type of thing, but absoloutely no pain at all. She asked if I was ready to thread the jewelry through, and I said yes. As she did so, I could tell what she was doing, but once again, I felt no pain at all. She told me to get up and take a look and I was quite pleased with the sparkly little jewel I now had in my navel.
Throughout my whole experience, there were only two negative things I could think of. After leaving the shop, I felt really hot, and really cold. Then really hot again, and really cold, etc. I told my dad and he said it was just a reaction that I was having, and that my body was just accepting the new hole put into my body. I always get the same thing whenever I get shots, so it's nothing to worry about; I think it's just me. The only other thing on the down side was that it was sore for about 3 or 4 days after. I couldn't really bend down all that much, but I could manage to do everything that I normally would have done, including all of my dance, which I didn't expect to be able to do.
My piercing healed fully within about 3 months, which meant I probably could have changed it then. If you know me, you would know that I am going to wait until the exact day, if not longer, of my 6 month time period. I have about a week and a half to go right now, so I'm pretty hyped about that. So, if you're looking for a safe, quick healing piercing, I would definitely suggest the navel! =)
